Mice at This Price'

We moved from the city to Hoboken a year ago and found that Hudson Park (Archstone now) fit our needs for the time being. Very nice lobby and gym, but everything the other posters have noted (missing doorhandles, strange concierge, not enough laundry, occasional puke in the stairwells) is true.

We just received a rent increase of close to 20% and will not renew. The apartment is very large and the location is just about perfect, but we just are not willing to pay $3,500 for mice in our apartment.

When we first moved in, I met my first mouse. The building put in glue traps or something, which basically required my husband to come home to three or four trapped screaming mice. I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say that we had to get rid of the mice ourselves....

We also had some roof leaks, but it was only for a day or so and fixed quickly. This was around the time of the serious flooding in 2005, so I'm not sure it was an issue.

Our apartment was very quiet as long as the constantly fighting couple next door were getting along. The place has carpet and tile and the hallways are pretty dreary and not air conditioned. The laundry can be tight at peak times and is rarely air conditioned in the summer. The carpet in the hallways and elevators needs to be replaced, and the wallpaper in the halls is embarassing. They must have written the numbers of the apartments on the walls with black magic marker before wallpapering, because you can actually see it. I have no idea why they cant replace the stuff.

They don't seem to require security deposits or real credit checks, so you really do get some people who vomit in the stairwells at times. I'm not sure how they call this luxury, but the location is good, I guess. And we are in Hoboken. Oh yeah, and they have free coffee in the lobby. Ah, the luxury of it all.

I haven't seen too many great alternatives for a rental in a large complex in Hoboken and had we not been on the rodent infestation floor, or been asked to pay a ridiculous rent increase, maybe it would have been almost okay.
