So far so good!

Apparently I can't speak for the majority of the tenants who've already posted on here... but so far I love living here!

Our first two electric bills were under $130...you just have to keep the heat on auto so your apt doesn't freeze during the day then take forever to heat up when you come home (prob reason why others' bills are so high), management did give us a heads up about this. Also, we're facing east so we get morning light which helps heat up the apt. I imagine facing north, it'd be warmer in the summer, and facing south or west - colder. In the middle of winter, the window sill can get quite cold, but the cold doesn't go much further than that into the living room or bedroom. The screen doesn't rattle much, only on the windiest days do I hear it move. One insulation problem though would be the front door - it's a nice heavy door, but air does seep in through gaps between it and the frame. You don't notice it unless you're standing immediately in front of the door. Apparently it hasn't really affected our heating bill though.

The fixtures throughout the apartment are more than fine. The kitchen could be a little bigger, but it's definitely big enough - compared to friends' apartments in Hoboken and NYC. It's not as big as in Newport, but newer and a hell of a lot nicer. I love the fact that everything's only a year old. There is plenty of cabinet space. Just sucks that the last tenants didn't take the best care of the place, especially being that they were the first ones to rent the apt. There are some large scratches on the wood floors (mostly covered up with our furniture now), and some scratches on the stainless steel fridge and some stains on the bedroom carpet (which just pisses me off, how can you abuse a place so much in its first year, though we did see a LOT WORSE elsewhere, esp Newport). Also, when we moved in the cabinets and microwave needed to be seriously scrubbed b/c they reeked of curry.

There are a decent amount of people in the building who don't speak English (or choose not to in public), but a whole lot less than at Newport. People we've run into in the building are usually really nice. The hallways are also cleaner (except our trash room occasionally, but that's just b/c apparently there are lazy ppl who don't like breaking down boxes). The janitors clean the trash room and vacuum the floor in our hallway every day.

The bathroom is large. I wish the shower was marble instead of white tile, but the vanity is nice and the enormous tri-folding mirror. The water gets hot instantly and the water pressure's great. Love the washer/dryer.

Club H is awesome...to the poster who doesn't like that you have to go outside (we're talking a few hundred feet b/n the exit in the garage and the gym entrance), that's just straight up lazy. Gym membership is open to the public, why would it be inside the apt tower'

We haven't really used the amenity center yet, but the movie room looks cool. Also def going to use the pool come the summer.

All the guys at the concierge desk are really friendly.

The parking situation could be better. I wish it was a little cheaper. We didn't pay for a reserved spot, and I'm happy we didn't b/c you definitely don't need it. We usually don't have to park higher than the 4th floor. Only problem is one of the few times I was actually parked up on 6 and forgot to lock my car, some personal items were stolen! :( Otherwise, the neighborhood is completely safe. The building's surrounded by other high rises and brownstones and is only a few blocks from the water, which is more than safe to walk to, even at night. The PATH entrance is on the same the block, which is super convenient to getting to the city - only 20 min to midtown.

The only noise complaints I have are that I can hear when people are in the hallway and when their doors close. I'll attribute this to the space in the doorframe (also problem cause of the air coming through). The walls are thick enough b/c we can't hear neighbors on either side when in the apartment, which is a nice change from our previous apt (in Long Island) where you could hear EVERYTHING above and below you. I'm sure if you have noisy neighbors, you'll hear them regardless of how thick the walls are cause they're not concrete like older buildings.

Our view is absolutely stunning. We have sunrises over the skyline and sunsets reflecting off buildings in JC and the city. We're on a higher floor, so we have a water view and of the skyline (both midtown and downtown). There are several buildings partially obstructing the view though, and the lower floors won't have as good view at all I imagine with all the other high rises.

There are plenty of good restaurants and bars within walking distance. The area's slightly older than in Hoboken, but that's good if you're in your late 20s/30s and don't need to constantly party like you just got out of/are still in college. The area/building's really good for couples. The size of the apt is good, I wish the living room was slightly larger, but I really can't complain b/c the bedroom is huge, the hallway is wide, we have two closets in the bedroom and a walk in closet in the hallway. Our layout is really functional.

I can't speak for rent increases since we've only been here for 3 months. The management said that they didn't raise rents last year due to the recession, but I don't know when they stopped the rent increases, and when and how much they will be once they start up again.

Overall, I have to say we're really happy with the apartment and the area.
