Good.. but some issues

Hubby and I have a beautiful duplex with huge balcony. The apartment costs us much less than a small studio I lived in while in Manhattan. We also have two medium size dogs, and at Dixon Mills they don't care about size, breed or number. However, my issues are primarily with management and maintenance. Management expects that you pay your rent on time, which is ok. If you miss the deadline even by 1 minute, as it happened last month, they charge a late fee. They will also take you to court immediately should you not pay rent within a specific amount of time. However, I also would like maintenance to come on time as well, in exchange for the rent I pay every month. We have a major leak in our roof of the first floor. They are repairing roofs for all the top floors. However, this leak springs from the balcony's floor. Due to recent rains, the leak has worsened and it has damaged some of our furniture. We have asked time and time again for maintenance to take a look at it. No one has ever come, always inventing excuses such as dogs in the apartment, even though my husband works mostly nights and has all day available when he can take care of the dogs. My other issue is the neighborhood. I am a very tolerant and open minded person, but I have been sexually harassed time and time again by people loitering on the steps of apartments a few blocks away. They may not know it, but I understand Spanish quite well. I am not comfortable walking around by myself. In addition, some of the residents in this area enjoy eating chicken and not throwing away the bones. Now, if you have dogs, you know how dangerous chicken bones are to dogs (or most pets). Considering that there are quite a few trash cans around, I don't find it very hard for people to throw away trash rather than having it on the curb. All in all, I like Dixon Mills. I wish I could take my apartment, pay the same rent and place it in Manhattan (dream on!). But management and maintenance are not good. However, we have not had problems with noise and our neighbors are wonderful.
