Don't Believe The Hype...It's Not That Bad.

I've lived at Dixon Mills since this past March and I really can't complain. The people that say it isn't like Hoboken are correct....but I'm also saving ALLOT of money (for a down payment on a house) by not living in Hoboken!
The area itself is not too bad. Granted, it is a CITY....I think some people are forgetting that fact. There are some rough spots close by (PS...Only shop at ShopRight in Newport!), but overall it's OK. However, the parking situation is horrible (make sure to get on the waiting list ASAP if you are interested in moving to DM).
I've not had trouble with any of the machines in the laundry facilities (though they are a bit expensive) and the gym located in the basement is GREAT (with new equipment & 3 TVs!). But on the downside if you need anything repaired, I've noticed that the maintenance staff is extremely slow. The security staff also seems a bit ineffective.
I guess the noise level (from the surrounding outside neighborhood) depends both on what street you are on and what floor. I am in a 3rd floor apartment which overlooks a courtyard so I have had no trouble with outside noise (especially since the courtyards can only be accessed by those living within the DM complex). I would say use common sense when picking an apartment (IE. NEVER the 1st floor facing a busy street...like Columbus Avenue!)
Overall, I don't think the complex is that bad. True the surrounding area still needs a bit of spit and polish, but if it were as nice as Hoboken I would be paying around $1900 for the same 750 sq. ft. apartment(with hardwood floors, exposed brick, a dishwasher, high ceilings, etc.).
