Not for Buyers

I've lived in DM for 3 years. As is the consensus here, the renovations are purely cosmetic. Repair jobs, even before mention of going condo (according to tenants who've lived here for 7 years) have always been really poor. Management is horrendous! Whereas safety was a neighborhood concern now it's a concern within the building with all the empty units and secured entries being left open all night by daytime construction workers and a security staff that doesn't seem capable of securing the premises, nice though they may be. Conditions are somewhat hazardous when it rains -- sometimes you can hear the water pouring down the elevator shaft. Fire alarms always go off after heavy rains due to serious leaking problems. It's really too bad because DM is centrally located, an easy walk or shuttle ride to the PATH and charming in its historic layout. Evidentally the new owners/management are not capable of making it the safe, secure, structually sound downtown gem that it could be. I honestly feel really bad for those who get suckered in to buying. Everytime I saw a moving van or heard news of a neighbor moving out and their inevitable success story: "we found a much bigger place for same price" etc... I was happy for them-- but felt stuck. Luckily we'll be moving out as we've also recently found a much bigger space for pennies more. Adios Dixon Mills!
