Hi,
We moved in 2 months ago and have had none of the issues mentioned, no leaks, no rodents in the walls, nothing.
This has actually been the quietest building I have ever lived in.
The work that has been done on the new units seems to have solved all of the problems, since I have yet to experience the above.
There are some angry renters in the building who are spreading rumors. This is understandable, no one actually writes a review out of human courtesy, they write one because their home is being turned into condos and they don't want to move. This used to be one of the least expensive places to rent in JC.
I love my unit and now that its painted, the beams and all the architectural highlights look great. My dogs love the neighborhood.
In addition, I feel just as safe as I did when I lived in MidTown West or in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We looked everywhere and this was the best deal for the money. I also have met other buyers and they are all also extremely happy. At least for buyers, the management is responsive and construction and the super will fix any issues. Tom from construction really went the extra mile on our unit when I got nitpicky about some cosmetic issues.
Oh, by the way, I am not from the marketing team, if you believe so please respond and I will inform you of my unit #.

Hello,
I just read your review. I'm actually looking to buy a condo in the area and I'm really interested in this building. My broker is showing me the place next Wednesday, and I was wondering if you can give me more information about living in Dixon Mills. Perhaps what you like the most and least about the building and area.
I appreciate all your help.
Thanks,
Kristine

Hi newownerdm. I too am looking to buy my first place ever and really like what DM's has to offer. Along with the good reviews I have read some very bad ones as well and want to make sure i get the best for my money. have you ran into any of these problems? Bad security, scary neighborhood, mice, plumbing problems, etc.
I would love to see a post back. thanks!

Hi,
I hope this response will alleviate some of you worries. When I was purchasing I was also quite worried about the comments that I saw posted. What made me less concerned was realizing that many of the people posting these comments continue to live in DM and have lived there for many years, making me believe that the problems were not a serious as described or they would have moved.
Below is what I have been aware of from my unit or my neighbors:
1)Mice -I have heard of mice in the area, and I have seen a dead mouse but it was outside. DM construction apparently did a good job of covering any holes that may have been from mice in the past. I have not seen anything extrodinary, like them climbing through walls.
2)Leaks- I have had no leaks. My neighbors stated their inspector saw where a leak could occur in the future. In response, construction is replacing the area of the possible leak. I have not heard of anyone actually having a leaky roof in the new units.
3) Neighborhood- Its up and coming is what I would say. Some of the stories I have heard I looked up and were just fabrications. I have never felt unsafe coming home before midnight. After that hour I will take a cab from the path, but it is the same actions I took when I lived in the city. The security guards walk the floors multiple times a night.
If you look at the progress that has happened in the area in the last 5 years you know that change is occurring.
4) Washer/ Dryers-They do take a LONG time. For a regular load it is about 3 hours. They are good for small loads and everyday stuff and are eco friendly. If you live on the 4th floor and have a balcony, you can look into a regular unit. In addition, there is at least one laundry room in every building; I use these to do big stuff like quilts.
5) Quite- The building is quite, I rarely hear my neighbors unless they are congregating near the front door. Renters have stated that they have issues with the floors squeaking. The new units have new floors and this has alleviated the problem.
6) Demographic- The new owners just had a BBQ, the demographic is very mixed. There are a lot of young couples, very few with children so far. Also, there are a few families in their later years, seeing this as their new home once they became empty nesters.
I hope the above answers all your questions, feel free to post anything else you may want to follow up on.

It was nice to read your comments. I'm looking for my daughter and the first several comments made me think about looking elsewhere. Thanks for being helpful and good luck to you.

Just visited DM today and thinking about purchasing a unit there with my husband. How do you feel about the condo and the neighborhood now that you've been there a year?
