I am an ex-Manhattanite who cannot say enough wonderful things about Dixon Mills. In my opinion anyone leaving such negative reviews on this site obviously has some personal problem with the complex. The convenience to Manhattan, the historic neighborhood, the lovely courtyards, and the planned fitness facility, it's all wonderful. I've walked the 3-4 blocks to the PATH station all hours of the day and night by myself, and have never once been asked for a cigarette, or a quarter, and have certainly never been mugged. The staff is friendly and hard working, and my neighbors are great. I have never seen a mouse or a roach in my apartment, and when my refrigerator died I had a new one within half an hour. This is a wonderful place to live, I wish I had found it years before I did.

I don't live in Dixon Mills, but came very very close to buying a place there last summer and bought somewhere else instead. One of the reasons why was because of many of the posts on this site. It is certainly possible that some of the people posting work for Dixon Mills, but it's also possible that some of the people are pissed off former renters that have gotten the boot. Having seen the building and having a friend that rented there for two years, I can actually say something of substance about the building.
There's good and bad. First, the good. The buildings are pretty cool looking. Lots of exposed brick and all of that. I'm a sucker for those things. I had seen studios, 1 BR, and 2 BR apts. The apartments are a really good size. Big living rooms, hard wood floors, good sized rooms, tons of closet space, etc. They have washer/dryers in the units, but I've heard that they suck and that most people go to the basement to do their laundry. The kitchens and bathrooms were brand new and looked nice. The units also have a cool layout and charm. Also, apparently they're putting in a gym, which will be big. It's also pretty close to the PATH. Oh and a great courtyard with grills and stuff.
The bad. I remember that the lighting wasn't very good in any of the apartments. The windows were to an inner atrium, so there was artificial lighting near the living room. The bedrooms didn't have a lot of natural light as well. I'm a big natural light person, so this bothered me. Also, there's a road that's cobblestones. I don't know the name, but when cars drive on it, you hear it, loud and clear from the bedrooms. That was from the 3rd floor. Same with Columbus. More importantly, my friend had three complaints: mice, thin walls, and leaky roofs. He didn't have mice in the apartment, but he said he heard them in the walls. He's a pretty chill guy though, and still liked living there. The building's old. You just have to keep that in mind.
The reason I ultimately didn't buy was because there were a lot of units available and the market was turning south. I was worried that the value of my apartment would tank. So instead I got in on a building with only one vacancy, which will hopefully keep the price somewhat level.
I hope this review was helpful. It was a fair and honest assessment.

100% agree with this assessment, except for the mice. I have no mice nor have heard mice.
