Rotten Deal --but probably not unusual for this area

I thought it was a pretty good deal at first too(even though the surrounding area isnt the cleanest). So close to manhattan, high ceilings, wood floors, shuttle service to station, quaint decor.
But as Ive learned, Im actually getting a LOT less than I thought I was paying for. For example: my packages have been lost numerous times and I keep getting other peoples mail, which makes me wonder: whos getting MINE?
The place is kept in complete disrepair and response to maintenance requests is abysmal. I have paid as much as $340 in monthly utility bills but NEVER been comfortably warm in winter (or cool in summer). Yet, Ive had them "fix" the problem several times. Last winter, there was no hot water in the morning for a whole month. I have had serious, recurring plumbing problems which have taken multiple calls and as much as SIX WEEKS for a response. Whats worse, the problems never seem to be really fixed, just temporarily patched up.
MY BEDROOM WINDOW DOESNT OPEN UNLESS I TAKE DOWN THE ENTIRE FRAME WITH A SCREWDRIVER AND THEY TOLD ME NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS!
Our front entrance stopped responding to the magnetic key card for almost a whole week! I had to go around to a far entrance on a dark, unsafe street side. I come home very late from work and have difficulties because of a physical illness, especially in bad weather. I would NOT have agreed to pay this much if I knew I was subjecting myself to this type of uncertainty. (I know people keep saying its cheap, but I have one of the more expensive units, so I dont have that consolation).
And as for the special selling points they used before I signed the lease? Well, the shuttle was out of service "indefinitely" during most of the summer (and before then, whenever the weather was bad and you REALLY NEEDED it). The hardwood floors are warped and uneven (Ive had to stick pieces of carboard under the legs of all my furniture to keep them from wobbling). None of my closet doors shut properly. There were repairs still being done in one of my bathrooms when I first moved in --they werent complete until 3 MONTHS LATER!! The elevator in my building breaks down at least once a month (once, it too had an "out of service indefinitely" sign on it).
Sorry if I sound "whiny" --but believe me I told you but a fraction of it. We all work hard all day, were willing to pay a good size rent, it shouldnt be THIS hard to be comfortable when we come home! In my business if I treated clients the way Dixon Mills treats tenants, Id be sued for malpractice!
Finally, I would like to meet the tenant who has NEVER had problems with the laundry facilities --it would be an honor to shake the hand of such a rare individual.
