Cold, isolated, and built by monkeys!

It could have been great... But unfortunately, Liberty Towers and Jersey City fail completely.

The first issue is the lack of restaurants, delis, pharmacies, and grocery stores. The neighborhood could have been really nice, but something was missed in the gentrification of Jersey City. All the restaurants are overpriced-- Manhattan prices in Jersey. The few stores in the area ("walking distance") usually close early are not open on the weekends. It might not have been so bad if Liberty Towers had actually filled the retail space on their ground floor. It’s been empty for a t least 6 months and we hear they are 6-10 months away from opening the next store. The grocery store is 3 light-rail stops away. It is a pain to get to the store and home. Do not move out here period, but if you do be sure you have a car!

The building is very cold. It is situated in a wind tunnel on the Hudson. Our apartment was freezing all winter. We complained about the heat, but we were told it was functioning normally. The electric bill was usually over $200 a month and the apartment still felt cold.

The building could have been built by monkeys. The walls are paper thin (we actually had a conversation with our neighbor last week... "Ah-choo!" Bless You. "Thank you!"). The heat is almost non-existent. The doors have bent off their frames and no longer fit. One of the cabinets is a different shade of white. The floor was not sealed and buckles anytime it gets wet. And when we moved in, we discovered that one of the monkeys had poured cement down our toilet. We were displaced for a week while they dug up our bathroom.

All in all, a failure. We’re looking forward to moving back into the city.
