I have live in this aparment since it first open. Great view, great location. The walk from the PATH station to the aparment is relaxing, nothing beats the NYC view. We went through a few management changes. The new management is much better and is here to stay. The staff are helpful and you really feel like home.
The gym is awesome. You get to see the full Manhattan view while you are working out. Its really quiet, you don't hear any traffic or sirens at all. Only sound you hear is from the river, the water waves.
I would strongly recommend anyone to stay in The Pier. It maybe slightly more expensive, but its definitely worth it!

Was it relaxing when the fire alarms went off for three days? Or when they spent 9am to 12pm "testing" the fire alarms the other day in July 2008?
The gym view is indeed awesome if you can enjoy it and not pass out from the heat -- no air conditioning in the gym. This makes it unusable from June to September for anyone that wasn't born at the equator.
Yeah, it's so quiet here. When the fire alarms aren't going off and deafening you, you can hear the cars thudding through the parking garage (they drive over these broken, steel seams that rattle the entire building). And amidst the roaring of the powerboats or the car alarms that constantly go off at the Hyatt, you can just hear the sound of the fishermen drinking 40s on the pier below.
