Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
I lived in Portofino for one yer in a 3BR on the 24th floor. Apartment was beautiful and the view was unbeatable (the schwab building blocks most floors from a full city view the trade centers are gone...
BAD POINTS:
1. management is relentless with anything regarding money... they return your security dep exactly one day before the law says it's a violation - and they charge you for anything they can get away with.
2. they withheld about $1700 of our sec deposit due to things like a: "refrigerator cleaning" and "replace carpets" even though it was spotless upon return!
3. elevator did not work once every two weeks b/c of faulty fire alarm.
4. constant construction noise - it is newport/harborside
5. NO CABLE TV OR CABLE MODEM ALLOWED - you must sign on to their direct TV feed, and for Internet you must sign on to the building's T1.
6. NO security cameras - my car was broken into twice while I was there.
Ultimately, it offered nothing I couldn't get by living in the city. Also I heard Roseland Prop is looking to sell it off (not verified). Weehawken / Guttenberg is more livable especially if you have a car and work anywhere near midtown (15 mins by bus).
