glad to be gone

I lived in Portside for one year and am glad to be leaving, mostly due to management and repairs issues.
1. After submitting numerous repairs to management through the front desk system and receiving no response, I drafted a letter to their attention last fall describing several repairs, including the fact that our laundry machines did not properly wash or dry our clothing. After three months of submitting repairs requests and no one checking the machines, and after several phone call to follow up on the letter, I took time from work to visit the mgmt. office to have the machines checked out. They called me later that day to advise me that the machines posed a hazard and we should not be using them due to a lint collection problem. It took weeks for them to be replaced. We never received any apology for the delay or major inconvenience (we pay high rent for the machines in our apt., not to use the machine downstairs). And that was just one of our numerous issues. Our fridge was broken, so they replaced it, and whoever replaced it either left food in the freezer that should not be frozen (i.e. cheese, coldcuts) and left food out on the counter that needed to be refridgerated. I complained to the mgmt office, and they denied what we described! (What happened to the customer always being right') We had to throw nearly all of our groceries away. Our living room air conditioner repair was addressed sloppily and caused a fire (with actual orange flame) to erupt when we tried to use it. Our toilet leak was not addressed for months, and when they finally check it out they used my PERSONAL HANDTOWEL to dry the floor of toilet water! I found it thrown on the ground when I returned home and it smelled disgusting. When I complained to Jackie, the head manager, and explained I was trying to work with her instead of go to corporate headquarters, she advised me that she didn't care and I could do what I wanted. I will be drafting a letter to them shortly now that I am gone. The other girls were nice on the phone and in person, but nothing every got done. A final note on mgmt-- they expected me to call the workmen and follow up with them during my workday-- isn't that THEIR job' I was constantly told to call someone else to get answers.
2. By reading this site, I now know that the club that kept me up most Thurs, Fri and Sat. nights is Sand Bar. It was like trying to sleep next to a car with a massive subwoofer.
3. Construction: the construction is cheap, cheap handles on cabinets, cheap appearance, thin walls.
4. Air conditioning units: filthy, outdated, horrendously noisy
5. Gym: broken machines (i.e. chain of track on leg machine, missing pegs for weight machines), outdated machines, missing weights.
6. parking policy: draconian and inefficient. Spots are tiny and difficult to get into evne with 4 door sedan. Even though I pay $185 for my spot and pay my rent timely, I discovered a huge orange sticker on my driver window that took great difficulty and time to remove; no one ever apologized or claimed responsibility. No one responded to my complaints.
7. GOOD: However, the guys at the concierge desk in the west tower have been great help-- call cabs, very nice nad helpful, hold the door if you have a lot of stuff--except for the older grayhaired genteleman who I discovered alseep on the couch when I arrived home at 3 am. Did not feel very safe after that. The view from our apartment was nice, too. I guess you pay for the view.
