Nice place - for one year

I am a current resident of Portside Towers, and overall I think it's a decent place to live - I have had a positive experience for nearly a year.

The good:
- Nearly all apartments have great views of lower Manhattan or the Statue of Liberty
- It's a really nice, quiet neighborhood, with some nice little restaurants and bars
- I have never had issues with the office or maintenance staff, and the doormen are mostly friendly
- You're only 1 stop from Manhattan on the PATH, and there's a water taxi right outside the West Tower
- On weekday mornings and evenings, for 50 cents you can take a bus from the complex to the PATH station

The neutral:
- It is true that they have Manhattan prices, but the apartments are much larger than you would get in Manhattan

The bad:
- All the reviews about large rent increases are true: ours went up 10% and friends in the building had theirs raised 15%
- What is even more questionable about their rent increase practice is that while the complex requires a 60-day move-out notice, they don't give you your new rent amount until about 75 days before you move out. That means you basically get 2 weeks to figure out where you are going to live.
- It's a 10-15 minute walk to the PATH station, which can be tough in bad weather
- There are many tenents here with dogs, and some are extremely large.
- There's a bar called the Sand Bar that's a couple of blocks to the west of the apartment that can pump out the bass until very late at night. The good news is that it's usually on weekends, and only during the warm months, but you can definitely hear it if you live in the West Tower.
- Parking is extremely expensive

Despite the negatives, I felt like living in Portside Towers is not bad for a year, but with the rent increases I will not be staying.
