At first site, the place and neighborhood look spectacular. Once you move in, things change.
rent stability: they will jack your rent up 200-400 a month come renewal time. amenities: Appliances are ancient and break frequently. In one year, my dishwasher flooded, freezer stopped working, hot water ran out 8x, and my heating unit leaked all over my apt causing the floor to bubble up. Management was terribly unprofessional and not responsive. I always tried to be in spite of the inconveniences. Floor is still in need of repair in spite of 2 requests and all the broken appliances where "patched" up instead of replaced.
Walls are thin and neighbors noisy. Above me, I can hear children bouncing around. I smelled marijuana and cigarettes in the hall.
You will find out that your neighbors pay less for more as their pricing is discriminatory. And based on the management's assessment of what it's worth that day.
There was a murder in the building with notes on all our doors asking for information.
Across the street, break-ins were occurring but not being reported by the management to keep tenants from panicking.
Know of at least 2 incidences of cars having their lights stolen while the vehicles where parked in their "secure" garage. Parking on the street is nearly impossible and by permit only.
Breaking my lease next month. Cant wait to leave.

Ohhh! Yes, I forgot to include that in my report as well.. my husbands BMW was broken into and many personal effects were stolen, including his passport, from INSIDE the GARAGE. Management did nothing except point out in their contract where they were not responsible. We had to file a police report and have the door and lock repaired where someone seemed to have pried it open with a crowbar. Of course we never got the items returned. Additionally, I lived in the neighboring building (Portside is two buildings) when the murder occured and our concierge told us it was over drugs.

My husband's BMW was broken into, too!!!!! It happened some time in April 2008. They didn't manage to get in though, probably someone scared them off. But it's true that the cars are not safe over there. As for the killed guy, I heard it was bec. he did not return some money to someone. So it wasn't a random murder, the guy must have known about this risk, right? I would not blame the management in this case: this can happen anywhere. Even if the murderer signed himself in downstaris - if he was determined to kill him, he would do it anyways. The concierge cannot read anyone's mind.

does anyone know which apartment the urder happened in? We were looking into Portside as an option but wanna make sure we do not end up in that apt!!
