good for rent, be careful of buying

I rent one unit 7 year ago and bought a condominium unit three years later. I moved out the place last year. It is a good place for rent but the real estate company at first floor on 225 saint pauls building is tricky. If time goes back 7 year ago, I may re-think thousand times before renting or buying.
To be honest, this building is old but construction sounds in general. I know some units are in bad shape (flooding, rats ), but I am lucky enough having my former unit in good condition. If you want to rent or buy, make sure no leaking. I know people have leaking or broken pines forever and their problems cannot be fixed.
I rent and bought units from the real esate company on 225 Saint Pauls. On surface, everything looks good as long as you play their rules. Here are issues: 1. The Company dominate the whole complex. It (under different names) owns 20 to 30 units on 225 saint pauls and more than 30 on 201 saint pauls and few in 10 Huron, which is old and bad. Like movie of black diamond, it controls the market. If you are lucky, your unit sells with good price. If the company does not want to sell (for stabilize tumbling price), then you try to go to other brokers, you will find your sale price will be bad b/c other brokers want to have a quick sale. I call this Republican way (good for rich people). You will know what I mean when you walk in to 1F at 225 Saint Pauls.
2. No bargain, racism... On surface, the company is welcome every buyers and renters. When the door is closed, the agents feel they are Donald Trumps. They are arrogant and look down those new immigrants. I accidentally hear their bad conversation several times while I was waiting outside. Of course, they dominate the whole building, so they can nick name everyone they do not like. Actually, they should look at themselves. They are greedy, stingy and racism. I heard people complaint that its agents look you down when you bargain. Everyone has right to bargain, but its agents will use racism words to those people afterwards, especially more and more immigrants and foreigners move in. 3. Monopoly: A good broker should put their sellers or buyers interests on top of their profit, not this broker. You are just a chess of their capital market. Like I said, if they do not want to sell your units for their own benefit, it will go nowhere or sold by other brokers with lower price. NOT A FAIR MARKET.
In general, this is an OK place. Comparing with other areas, the house price will NOT go sky high b/c its ok surroundings. Even with CANON LOFT built up, it will not go too far. In addition, the on-site realtor put their benefit on top of sellers. Just comparing Newport with JSQ, u will find who has more potential. Good luck
