I've lived in Sturwood Hamlet for several years now--overall, the place is a little run down, but it's a great bargain for pet owners (esp. those with large dogs that aren't accepted at many newer complexes at all, or with huge pet fees). The apartments are nothing special to look at, but are *quite* large for the price in this area. My apartment was freshly painted and had new carpet when I moved in (granted, both were somewhat amateurishly done, but the overall effect was clean and new). The few little repair requests I've had were addressed promptly and adequately. The office manager can be abrasive at times but is generally okay as long as you treat her with respect; the office generally stays out of your hair, which is nice. I would highly recommend Sturwood Hamlet if you have a dog and are looking for a relatively inexpensive, no-frills apartment in a safe neighborhood.

I also currently live in Sturwood, but I am going to move soon! Have lived here for 6 years (1999 - 2006). The people moving in now are not the best neighbors. Loud music. People are beginning to leave their garbage out, all during the day and overnight, in front of their apartment doors. Loud music, loud cars and traffic in and out of apts. late at night, 1 - 2 am. Repairs are slow to be made and the grounds are unkempt. Some residents allow dogs to go "potty" on the lawn in front and rear of apts. Manager is rude and unresponsive to complaints. Do not recommend anyone come to live here anymore. Best to buy your own home instead.

I live at Sturwood and it is not all that bad. If your looking for a safe pet friendly place to live with a dececent school system ( especially the elementry school) for a decent price Sturwood is the place for you. Of all the places I looked at it is worth the price. Your not going to find anything cheaper in Lawrence that will allow large pets. The manager is very nice as long as your curtious to her.
