It seems from the dates of the reviews that this place went downhill, FAST! Pleasure Bay is the most unprofessional, unethical, unhelpful place I've ever lived. Yes, the apartments are pretty and newly renovated, but what good is it when they are infested with vermin, crickets and bed bugs' All that was done about it was putting a mouse trap under the stove, which they expect the tenant to check and clean out!

The noise from the street is ludicris, although that's not the complex's fault.

Lots of shady people live here. Drug dealers abound, overcrowded apartments with illegal immigrants, trash in the parking lots (one particular dirty pair of BVD's underwear sat in the parking lot for nearly 3 weeks!), dog feces all over the grounds (alot of pit bulls), most washers and dryers broken for nearly a year, laundry area VERY poorly maintained and dirty, WAY too thin walls and floors, and out of control children that throw rocks and balls at people's windows while they wait for the bus (they do tend to scatter when you throw buckets of water at them from your window, but then you have to deal with the ghetto mother wanting to throw down with you).

I found the maintenance staff helpful and pleasant, but the office staff was rude, unhelpful, and had bad attitudes.

When I moved in, the heat was included in the rent. When it was time to renew, they wanted to charge an additional $138 ON TOP OF the rental increase to pay for heat and water. The trouble is, in NJ, unless the units have seperate meters (which these do not), the landlord is not allowed to charge for utilities! They try to get around it by stating in the lease that this fee can be collected as "additional rent"! They get 1 bill for the complex and devide it up amongst the tenants. Why should I pay the same amount for utilities when I am 1 person who conserves, and across the way live 10 illegals in the same size apartment who obviously use lots more than 1 person' It's unethical and illegal. This was just a way for them to raise the rent an unfair and unconsionable amount. Once I saw this and was told by my lawyer how illegal it was, I knew I had to get out.

I would NOT recommend this complex to anyone who is interested in a safe, clean, FAIR place to live. The only NICE thing about it is that it is on the river, and it's close to the beach... but if you add up the rent plus what they want you to illegally pay in utilities, you might as well get someplace nicer, newer, with a better class of people on Ocean Avenue, like me. You'll pay the same amount and have much more peace of mind.
