I can't even begin to tell you how many people in this complex have had a problem
with strangers entering thier apartments when they are not at home. Maplewood's staff just loves doing that. Don't bother requesting that they do not enter unless you are home or you have been notified in advance. They don't listen and they don't care. I came home from work to find contractors trying to get in my door as well as my neighbor's door with a ring of master keys that the office gave to them. Strangers off the street entering my home. Maplewood staff was not even with them while they were doing this. I have a child, valuables, as well as personal information which are at risk while living in this complex. How do I know these people are not running over to the store to make a copy of the key. I have to worry about people entering my home in the middle of the night and taking my child. I tried to find out what they were doing but they could not speak english. And don't try to change your locks because the office will start with the threats. If they don't get a copy of your key they will hold you in violation of your lease. ***I wonder how they would feel if strangers were going in and out of thier homes when they were not aware of it. Would they except a threat if thier children were at risk' DONT THINK SO !!!! They enter homes with alarm systems and set them off. You would think the office staff would give strangers a heads up before giving them a key to an apartment with an alarm system. Who could ask for a better office staff'

I don't know why they are spending millions on this renovation project. The buildings still look run down and drab. The landscaping is a joke. You have half cut trees, dirt or dead grass for your front yard, large roots sticking out of the ground, and ugly wooden hand rails going up the steps. And don't forget the dog crap that people don't pick up from thier dogs. This place has no hope.

My neigbor's unit is interesting. She has to listen to pipes banging every day on the hour. The old pipes in the walls bang loud for no reason. The units on this end had a major sewer line clog and dirty waste shot out of the toilets and all over the floors of the units. Your drain pipes are connected to your neigbor's unit so you will see the crap from thier garbage disposal back up into your sink. From time to time green stuff even backs up into your tub when you fill it to take a bath. To this day I still don't know what it is. There is also a wonderful rotten egg smell that comes out of the water lines as well.

Be careful if you request new blinds for your windows. Most of the time you will get some pure white and some that are light yellow. A very nice look for your unit,if your color blind. The fridge is tiny and has very little room for your food.

BUGS....BUGS...BUGS... BUGS.... - Thats all I will say about that.

There are laws in the State of NJ that prohibit a landlord from entering your apartment without fisrt giving you notice unless there is an emergency. If the landlord does not or will not abide by this then you must notify them in writing that they are in violation of your lease (send this certified with return receipt requested). If they enter again without notification or if they hand your keys to a contractor you need to call the police because this is breaking and entering. Don't let anyone trample on your rights. The New Jersey Tenants Association can give you more information and can be found online. Good-luck.

I lived there from 1995-2000 until maintenance was in my apt when there was a state inspection (he let the state in). I came home to find $500 in change stolen. I found out the name of the maintenance man. I filed a police report that night. Next morning I went to speak with manager who became psychotic - threatening that she would make my life miserable and that it was the state who probably took the money. That morning (I did not go to work that day) I heard my door handle jiggle. I ran downstairs and lo and behold - there was the same maintenance man who let the state in (name on shirt) trying to get into my apt with a bunch of keys in hand. Said he was looking for ___. I told him it was next door. I called the manager again and she was so abusive and threatening that I was very scared. I called the cops and they had a talk with her. I lived for two months with thread on my windows (if it was broken, I knew someone came in) and a very small piece of wood in the door so that I knew if someone came in or not. My last two months there were hell. The police suggested I place a restraining order against the manager but I only had two months to go and she was too psychotic and did not know what she was capable of. I agree with you and sympathize with you!! Good luck!!!
