I lived there for a few years. Overall it was not a bad experience, but without a doubt I would say you can do better.
They get more solicitor's here than a Jehovah Witness convention. Every Weekend, like clockwork, and some during the week.
I have never seen a road as bad as the one that runs in front of the complex. When driving on it, I felt like I was in a battle zone, driving down that road. The road has potholes, big enough to wreck your car.
They have laundry facilities on the property, and some apartments now have them (which costs a lot more) The facilities look like something out of a horror movie. They are located in a few of the basements, in the apartment complex. They are open 24 hours, which I liked. The places themselves are a bit on the rough side. Cobwebs in the windows, and very dirty. You also need to purchase a laundry card, and put money on it, to use the facilities.
Neighbors weren't bad here. On the weekend the regular retards would come in, with stereos blasting at all hours of the night. I very rarely heard my neighbors, but I did here them slamming their doors, and them playing their stereos in their apartments. Overall though, I had no problems with the neighbors.
The Matawan Police Department make regular rounds, on the main road that runs through the apartment. Yes, they do issue tickets, I know from personal experience.
The apartment that I had, had old windows. Supposedly, they have been replaced in some apartments. When it rained, they leaked. In the winter, they were very drafty.
I had no problem with management or maintenance. Both were very friendly, and helpful. Always, fast to help you, or fix any issues you may have.
The dumpsters are usually full on Monday mornings, but pretty good the rest of the week. There is a big problem, with people leaving desks, mattresses, and other junk sitting outside the dumpster. I have seen the stuff sit there for more than a few weeks.
They do have a pool, and is mandatory to buy a pass to use it. Even if you never use it.
They have been taken over by new management since I lived there. I do know for a fact, you need to make 3 times the amount of your rent there, otherwise you will be denied approval to live there. I was a little surprised, since I never saw Long Brook as any kind of upper class place, it is far from it.
The rent goes up, every year you renew your lease.
It is within walking distance of the train station, 2 convenience stores, and a liquor store.
If you have the option, I would say go somewhere else, if not Long Brook, is not that bad, and could be a good stepping to stone to bigger and better things.
