where to start'
1) bait and switch tactics - they pull the old "show the model" apartment in the office, and stall you when you want to see the real one. If you refuse, they just move to the next person in line, and in NJ there is always a line

2) 2 sets of standards - renters get the shaft. My apartment wasn't painted, washed, vacuumed, or cleaned prior to my arrival. The unit was supposed to contain a dishwasher and hardwood floors, but it had torn up, stained carpets and no modern utilities. Always DEMAND to see the actual place, despite what they try to stall you with. Don't make my mistake. The people who pay to own (after a down payment of $19K) get human treatment, clean units, modern appliances, etc.

3) shady business practices - renters are required to purchase homeowners liability insurance, its snuck into the lease. It'll cost you $140. If you don't, they try to fine you 6 months later. Its a scam. DON'T RENT HERE!

4) loud neighbors - parking is a pain too. you have 1 space, and I guarantee you will have a few scratches on your car doors by the time you get to move out. Garages will cost you about $30-$40 extra on your rent if you can get one.

5) highway access - you're ON rt. 10 East. Every time you want to make a direction change, you have to hit a jughandle. It sometimes takes me 20 minutes to go a distance of 3 miles. morris county is so densely populated it makes grocery shopping down the road an all-day task. Allow time for sitting in traffic at all hours of the day, not just rush hour.

6) train pass - add on $300 a month at least to your budget, forget about parking there. Those passes will be killed over by the 9-5'ers going to manhattan for work. You'd better be making big bucks to go this route.

7) best advice - DO NOT MOVE TO THE MOUNTAIN CLUB!!! renting here is the WORST experience of my life. They defrauded me out of my apartment, charged me $180 for not buying illegal policy insurance for my apartment, gave me a place in HORRIBLE condition, and lie to my face every time I talk to them. I still have to suffer through 5 more months here. I can only imagine how much they're going to try to screw me out of with my security deposit. I've been miserable here since moving day, it gets worse every day.
