Yo!

Nice apartment with minor annoyances

Just to give you a little background on myself; this is my first apartment ever so I don't have too much to compare this too. I have been living in a first floor 1 bedroom lakeside apartment for about 10 months.

Overall I really like my decision to live here. I have no major complaints about the apartment or the staff and would recommend it. My neigbors have been nice and I have no compaints about the community. I plan on moving out in 3 months but that's just because I want to be closer to the PATCO line.

The One Major Problem I had:
After about a month in the apartment my bathroom was flooded with about 3" of water due to my upstairs neighbors toilet overflowing (it was clean water though). This occured at about 1am. I called maintence and they claim they sent someone out that night but I fell asleep and they never called my cell like I asked and I never heard them knock at the door since I was asleep. The next day I called them again and they come out and fixed the bathroom ceiling and wanted me to call the next day to let them know if everything was fixed. Since their was water in the bathroom, all of the carpet outside of the bathroom and the ceilings had water damage. I had to call up and complain that they didn't fix this but after one phone call they got a carpet company to come and professionally dry the carpets and they repainted the ceilings. This was the only big issue I've had. While I don't like that it wasn't fixed immediately, after 3 days my apartment was back to normal.

Small little annoyances:
-While I do like that their is a washer and dryer in the apartment, I don't like the lack of an exhaust for the dryer to the outside. This means that when I run the dryer the kitchen gets hot. Over time other effects include getting a thin layer of lint all over the kitchen so I have to clean it every week.
-The paint used in the kitchen and bathroom are poor quality. I have to clean them every month because heat causes the paint to run and their are yellowish lines of paint running down all of the walls. It looks as if a can of soda exploded.
-Bugs. Do not move here if you have a very low tollerance for bugs. They really didn't bother me much but know that you will have spiders and other creatures in your apartment. They do provide you with free extermination service, but I've never used it.
-Layout. Trying to figure out how to arrange furniture is challenging.
-Heat. I was shocked when I got my first energy bill in the winter that was for $200. After conserving heat I was able to get it to about $140. The summertime wasn't bad though, paying as little as $20 for energy/month.
-Distance to parking lot. This isn't the case for the majority of the apartments, but I had to walk a good distance(ranging from 100 to 200 yards) to get to my apartment, specially on the nights I got home after 10pm.

Things I Like:
-Located withing 2 miles of 295, Jersey Turnpike, Rt. 73, and Rt. 38.
- Fireplace. I wan't looking for an apartment with one, but I love having it.
-Kitchen. I recieved an apartment with brand new counter-tops and cabinates. It looks great. Also, all of the appliances were brand new as well.
