Quiet easy living, but beware of bad maintenance and hidden costs

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2009

I lived here for 3 years, and found it to be quiet, easy living.

The Good:
*All* of the appliances and carpets were brand new, and I never had a problem with them.
*Even when I had noisy neighbors, it was extremely quiet once I shut the door. There was occasional noise from upstairs, but nothing annoying.
*Parking may vary depending on your unit, but even at 10-11pm, I could at least find a reasonable spot, (less than a half a city block, for comparison).
*The staff was very quick to respond to any issue, whether to schedule maintenance, answer questions about rent/policy, and were very easy to work with when moving out
*Moving out was simple, they were very reasonable about damages vs wear and tear
*When they upgraded the apartment, they redid the deck and window it in less than a week, with very minimal effect to my life. The apt management supervised the workers the whole time.
*Strip malls with good food within walking distance. You cannot live in NJ without a car, but the sidewalks in this area made it easy to walk to several local establishments.

The not-so-good:
*The maintenance staff. I called them twice, once to fix a few things, once again to fix the fix, and then decided from then on to do quick-fixes and live with the issues. One of the issues was simply fixing the bathtub plug, which was never fixed, and instead they just layered goop over the drain cover, which wore away with the original tub finish in about a week making it look horrible. I bought a cheap plug and didn't bother dealing with the built in mechanism.
*The AC unit. It's like the type of thing you see in hotel rooms--very cool, cool, off, heat. I kept a thermometer next to it, and sometimes it would read 65 on a hot summer day, and others it would read 82 at the same setting. Same for the heat in the winter. I never could find a nice even setting for any time of year.
*Though the rent was $100 cheaper than comparable apartments in the area, beware of the excessive bills for water/sewage (capped at $25, always hit the cap), and electric (about $80-150, with conservative usage) b/c of faulty AC, laundry in unit, electric stove

my overall opinion:
No apartment is a dream home, and the staff isn't there to wait on you hand and foot. I have lived in far worse apartments, and must say this has been the easiest and most pleasant apartment experience I have had.
