Incomparable Views

First the good: the view is AMAZING... if you're lucky enough to get an apartment on a high floor on the park side, which we have. The large balcony is wonderful for entertaining or relaxing on warm summer evenings.
The apartment itself offers large rooms and INSANE amounts of closet space... a packrat's paradise! The parquet floors are elegant; however, the tiles have come up a few times and been replaced. The management is quick to fix things when they're broken. They've put a lot of money into the building, which has made it very nice... but nothing more than what should be expected for the high rents we pay. The park is absolutely beautiful, and we actually can walk out the front door into it. Much better location and value for the money than any of the newer luxury apts. in New Brunswick. Also, there is a shuttle that stops in front of the building during AM/PM rush hours- free ride downtown and to train station- ideal for NYC commuters. Lots of parking for tenants/visitors. 2-level parking deck under the bldg.- costs extra.
The bad: concierge service non-existent (although they like to advertise it). Only 2 of the doormen actually open doors for us. The others just sit there and watch TV. They're more like security guards than doormen. Our elderly neighbor (who has a hearing problem) sleeps with the TV on all night. Very annoying, and management has failed to do anything about this. The combo heat/AC units often don't work well when it's very hot or cold outside. System is very old and hasn't been maintained well.
Despite the problems, we won't be moving anywhere else because we'd lose the view and doubt we'd find a better value.

Sorry, but telling prospective tenants that the views are great is really, really unhelpful.

If you wanted to write a useful review you could mention the ridiculously unfriendly policies that the power-hungry staff puts in place just to feel important.

Oooh, big closets? Yes, we prospective tenants can easily see that, thank you very much. What we can't see are the elevator breakdowns (sometimes for days) which cause tenants on the upper floors no end of aggravation.

Did Colony House pay you to write this favorable review? Because no one who actually lived there would really think that it was a good "value." It's very expensive! 10 Landing Lane, right next door, is _much_ less expensive (okay, with some worse view).

Colony House is for suckers.

I'm the person who wrote the review above, and I think the tone of your response is unnecessary. It sucks that you had a bad experience, but that doesn't justify calling my review "unhelpful" just because you disagree with it. I can only relate my experiences. I can't talk about elevators breaking and "unfriendly policies" because that has not been my experience- and I've been here for more than six years. If you want people to see a review about those things that you say you've experienced, write it yourself- but don't attack me because I have not experienced those things. As I said more than four years ago in my review, there have been issues here... but particularly with the cost of energy these days, having all utilities included is a major reason why I've been here for more than six years. There are many people in this building who have been here a lot longer than that. This place is not perfect by any means, but I have looked around and there is no better value. Landing Lane doesn't even have balconies. Perhaps balconies, views, and closet space are not important to you, but those things are important to me- and I think other people value them as well.
