Everyone's complaints on this board are valid. The garage is a joke -- 1. the office can't keep track of which spaces are assigned to which residents 2. the spaces are too small and the management routinely assigns "compact" spaces to SUVs and pickup trucks, the end result is that you have about a 6 inch margin of error on either side. Prepare to contort yourself when you're trying to get in or out of your vehicle. 3. it's impossible to get a good parking angle since they jammed too many spaces into the garage -- you can watch in amusement in the evening when everyone returning from work / school / etc parks their cars after shimmying back and forth multiple times.
If you look in the garage you'll notice a few things. Way too many BMWs and Audis considering that most residents are in their early 20s. Also you'll see that many cars are from out-of-state, meaning they're just passing through and they won't stop to chat or make friends. I still can't believe how the management has made this place available to RU students en masse ... they come back drunk 4 nights a week and do all sorts of petty vandalism. They're loud and they're constantly yammering on their cell phones ... when they're in the elevator, checking mail, walking past your door at 3 am on a Wednesday. There are hardly any people here past age 30, and hardly any "professional" (i.e. "quiet") residents.
My unit looks out over Rt 18 to the south. As a result it's an oven during the morning and it doesn't cool down at night. The noise from 18 is bad and there's no trees or anything to deaden some of the sound. Truckers use 18 as a shortcut from 287 to the NJ Turnpike so I get to hear trucks rattling all night long.
The only TV option is DirectTV, and it sucks! The channel layout makes no sense, and 12 channels are taken up by religious networks, 24 are shopping networks, and another 50 are cool channels which you won't get as a basic subscriber. Oh yeah, you have to pay $75 to some communications outfit in order to get your cable boxes installed. This was the first of many hidden fees ..... yes, you have to pay all your utilities and you'll get billed by some mysterious outfit for your water and your heat.
The guest parking area is a joke - a dozen spaces for a complex with 400 units' Come on. Then again if they expanded it, the RU students could have bigger parties since their friends could park their BMWs more easily. Street parking is hard to come by as well, so I rarely have visitors. I have no intention of using the pool since I don't want to deal with RU students and the maintenance crew's friends.
To be fair the units themselves are nice and they have most amenities you could want. I haven't been here long enough to renew a lease so I don't know of any games the managers play. You'll get a nice apartment for the money (sadly I found that it's not much more expensive than other area rentals) but you won't get a community or a place where you want to stay very long. NB has some good restaurants and the NYC trains, but it's got a long way to go before it becomes a vibrant downtown area (unless dollar stores and scuzzy pharmacies are your thing).
