I was bored and surfing the internet and for whatever reason ended up reading these reviews. Overall it is an ok place to live but the only thing I will say to potential residents is don't even pay attention to the rent amount. Doesn't mean anything because they shave that price. By the time you add in all the little things that many other places roll into the rent amount your monthly expenses are 300 more than what you thought they would be. I admit a lot of the other buildings I have lived in don't cover somethings but virtually everything at Highlands is ala carte. $500 amenity fee, really expensive parking (plus whatever your friends will all owe in towing if they ever come see you), 100 dollars for (mandatory!) renter insurance, water, gas, electricity, that monthly Roselink charge.

Oh no, I got started on the Roselink. Slowest. Internet. Ever. If I could I would cancel that 100 a month mandatory service and go get some real telecom. Good lord. They said it was a T1 when I moved in but they must have the entire complex sharing a single t1 line or something because I think I got faster service back in the 28.8 modem days. The other thing is that you get charged for the Roselink regardless but if you want anything more than basic cable on 1 tv you end having to pay MDU and Directv every month anyways. I have two TVs (bedroom and living room) and wanted HBO and HD/DVR hookup for my bigscreen in the living room. We pay three cable bills a month now if you include that Roselink one.

The real bite of it is that after getting everything hooked up I realized we only get like 8 HD channels (including the networks which you can get off the tuner for free anyways)! WTF' I flipped out and called Directv because their commercials say over 100 channels in HD. They informed me that I am technically "getting" the service but unfortunately Highlands satellite antenna is too old and it doesn't even pick up the signal for all those channels. So while Directv Customers across the country are getting 100 glorious HD channels, we suckers living at Highlands are paying the same price for like 8. What a waste of a glorious 40 inch flat panel...

Couple of other things, every building I have ever lived in had some sort of bellhop cart or pushcart or something that you could use. Making 4 trips down to the garage and back up to carry groceries or hefting around a giant TV box or something is not enjoyable.

Also It isn't the buildings fault but the construction on 18 is just killing us. The noise (even at night sometimes), the crappy torn up roads, constantly changing exit locations on us, the suicide "entrance" to the highway. It is just getting real old.

Please read my whole post before looking at the rating I gave the staff. That rating is due to only one area which I will get to after I talk about the good. In all my dealings with them, the maintenance guys have been awesome and quick. The two concierge ladies are FANTASTIC. But out of the 6-7 apartments I have ever leased and moved into, the leasing department here was the lease helpful through both of those processes. They were pretty awful and from what I hear from a few friends around the complex ours was not a unique incident and not specific to our leasing person. I have dealt with the head manager (who sits in that glass office) a few times and he is actually really helpful and seems like he genuinely wants to help people out.

The actual agents are really bad though. Not just from an attitude standpoint (which they have in spades) but just a lot of problems with lack of organization. Missing paperwork, not returning messages for weeks at a time even with an approaching move in date, asking us to resend things that were aleady turned in, a misquoted move in time, inability to produce a receipt for a substantial sum of money changing hands after multiple requests, just a real mess.

Oh and one other thing, why the hell is the bathroom so big' Not a complaint just strange. It is probably a quarter of our square footage. And the walk in closet is IN the bathroom. Not cool when you have guests staying with you and you are all getting ready to go somewhere. That one IS a complaint.

OK I think that about sumes it up.
