NEVER AGAIN!!!

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
When I visited Riverwatch Commons before signing the lease agreement, I absolutely loved the place. It seemed to be one of the best looking buildings in New Brunswick, it appeared to be safe, and the management team presented themselves to be very courteous and professional. Well, in my short stay there (I was completing my last semester at Rutgers and my roommate and I signed a 6 month lease) all of these notions proved themselves to be incorrect.
Firstly, the quality of the apartments do not correspond with how much you pay in rent...(the doorknob once came off right in my hand as I was opening the bedroom door!!!) The carpet is cheap, the kitchen is basic if that, the heating and air system is not the best and is not at all efficient, and there is frequently no hot water.
During our first month in the apartment, we completed the form given to us by the manager upon our move-in which let us specify any issues or problems we noticed in the apartment. There were several leaky faucets and other minor problems which we reported, but maintenance never came. We had to remind management more than once for these issues to be repaired.
While this issue was fairly minor, it just started our term there on the wrong foot. Secondly, I'm not sure if it was racially based or due to the fact that my housemate and I are young (22 yrs old), the management showed us no respect and were very rude and I have no idea why, other than the aforementioned reasons.
In the second month, I was in the bedroom and it was around 10PM and being that the weather outside was still nice, I had the window slightly open. A total stranger outside knocked on my window and asked me to let them in...Yes!!! I am serious!! This incident shocked and scared me very much, and from then on, I was very guarded at the apartment.
The last month, I had my brand new car in the parking lot and while I was inside packing, one of the windows was totally smashed and the gps system stolen!! What an upsetting end to my time at Riverwatch, and this incident made me only so much happier that I was out of that dump. When I reported it to management, they offered no extra assistance and were very complacent about the issue.
Overall, I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone! The lobbies are frequently dirty (the corridor leading to my apartment would sometimes have dog excrement which was not picked up for days. I am not sure how the pet owner allowed this to happen, or why the lobbies and hallways were not cleaned daily, but it was very disgusting.) The gym is no pleasure to work out in because the equipment is cheap and the water cooler is never refilled and the appropriate disinfecting sprays/wipes are never refilled as well.
Additionally, the restaurants on Dennis Street are very very loud at night and especially on the weekend, making it very hard to sleep if you are at home, and due to their high patronage, there is no parking available for your guests.
I totally regret signing a lease at Riverwatch Commons and it was a huge waste of money. Do not choose to live here if you have any choice whatsoever!!!!!
