UNSAFE -- Does Not Measure Up To LUXURY STANDARDS

I have been living here for about a year and have had a few dilemmas. After reading such rave reviews about Eleven80 and how wonderful it is living here, I was reluctant, but I gave it a shot, after all, it is in Newark, which is VERY unsafe!!! People on drugs are constantly begging for money in the MORNING and NIGHT and asking: "How much is it to life in that building."
Eleven80 is a beautiful building better than some in Manhattan BUT, I think that the location is not worth it, maybe sometime in the future once Newark is cleaned up and there is competitive cost of living, but not now.
I have quite a few issues but I will only share a few:
TENANT SUGGESTIONS: I am very sadden by the fact that management will not allow tenants a suggestion box so that they may write their thoughts and suggestions as to their likes/dislikes regarding the operation of the building (i.e., management, gym, valet, shuttle, women's locker room, etc.) instead, they have created a site: "Life At 1180" accessible by utilizing your apartment number and password so as to monitor your information. I think sometimes people would rather express their thoughts without consequence.
WOMEN'S FACILITY: When the gym first opened, I used to use the facility (women's spa/locker room/shower) all the time until I observed and got tired of seeing men go into the facility. It's a place where only women should be allowed BUT, THAT IS NOT THE CASE. I don't understand why they can't hire women to replenish the toiletries/towels in the ladies facility so I stopped going because you never knew when they were coming.
SHUTTLE SERVICE: First of all, I think that it is nice that management has provided us shuttle to/from Penn Station, airport and the (market - because there are none within walking distance); however, what good is a shuttle if the service is poor. We had a NICE guy (-----) who was kind, courteous and respectful, he would arrive on time EVERYDAY! A tenant had a dispute with him and I was told he was fired. What a big loss, as we have lost other good employees.
Tonight, I requested the shuttle to take me to the market which is between 5 and 10 miles. We have a new driver now, it took him about an hour to pick me up from the building and he kept saying that he was 5 minutes away. After picking me up, he raced through several traffic lights. He came close to causing major collisions and I told him to slow down and he kept saying I have others waiting for me. Once he took me to the market, I told him that I would not be longer than 5 minutes -- 10 minutes tops! As soon as I stepped out of the shuttle, he pulled off and left me at the market on a dark road (Passaic Road) and I could not get a cab so I had to walk 5 to 10 miles back to Eleven80 in the dark and across the bridge. The concierge would not tell him to turn around and come back to get me. I can honestly say, that "I Will Never Use The Shuttle Again" the service is poor and Eleven80 is written large all across the shuttle (for advertisement purposes). If some unfriendly person follows you and sees you boarding the shuttle, the only thing that is missing your apartment number.

I obviously don't live in that building, but I think the first half of your review is exaggerated.
As someone who has worked and frequents that area often, I wouldn't the central business area/Raymond Blvd. "unsafe". Yes, the buisness areas of Manhattan are probably safer than that area due to MORE PEOPLE, but still. Just because you see minorities and a few bums doesn't make it a warzone. There's a police presence there for the most part. There are bums/druggies in many city downtowns/CBD's nationwide, including Manhattan. Did you get robbed, stabbed or raped? Just be grateful this building isn't located 2 miles west.
And what "market" are you talking about? Passaic Road? You mean the Shoprite/Pathmark in Kearny? That isn't exactly 5-10 MILES from 1180. You mean you couldn't get ANY cab service or wait for the #76 bus which drops you off AT 1180? Whatever.

This person is a dope, and prejudiced. Newark's got city problems, like any other city, but you are not somehow better than these people.
I miss ----- too, but to say that the new drivers are unsafe is a fallacy. To say that someone asking you for money is dangerous is asinine. Have you ever been to NYC? I get asked for money there all the time.
I've got some complaints about the building too, but it's far better than any other place I've ever lived. As for the writing on the van, paranoid much? What is that person going to do when they get to the building? Perhaps deal with the armed security officers that walk around outside?
Every problem you have, you say "I'll never do that again." Melodrama -- I'm sure you won't be missed.

Ignore this review. To rate the staff here a 1 and safety a 1 is absolutely ludicrous.
