Hi all! I'm a bit confused by all the postings and I'm looking for a realistic assessment.
I'm looking to rent a one-bedroom apartment as I'll be attending law-school part-time and working in downtown Newark, and I'm concerned about the following:
Are there washer-machine issues' (manual emptying')
Are there still no females on staff to maintain the ladies locker room'
What is the parking situation like' Valet service'
Overall, do the pros outweigh the cons'
Please advise :) Thanks!

Wash machines are no problem. You have to drain(pour into sink) about 5 pounds of water every 10 washes or so. Takes 1 minute and is no trouble. The new gym manager is female. Don't use valet so can't comment but I haven't heard of many problems.

1180 Raymond Boulevard is such a nice place to live. I have been here for a little over a month, originally from Hoboken NJ. I was paying $2,500.00 a month for way less of the amenities. The gym is beautiful and never packed. The media room, library, pool table, bowling alley, basketball court....and much more is like a dream come true! When you come home, you are welcomed by every single conceirge member. They say "Welcome home". You can drop your dry cleaning off at the front desk and have it back the next day. All of your packages, visitors and food deliveries are taken seriously. You are notified via email and phone. I feel like royalty and as hard as I work, I deserve it! Now lets wait for Newark to clean up its act.

Valet was doing well but Central Parking who manages the situation took out the manager who was organizing things so that we would get our cars and put in some yahoo who spends his days in the deli next door and sometimes refuses to allow his staff to retrieve people's cars if he doesn't like them. He is rude and obnoxious and will never do any work himself and allows the valets to be understaffed and still won't lift a finger. The old manager was part of the crew and helped out as they are often understaffed. Now there seem to be gaps of coverage when you can't get a car since the manager refuses to cover times when none of his staff are available.

To clarify, you have to empty the DRYER, not the washer. It is more often than 10 washes, though... for me I get about 3 without emptying the tank. I use the water on my plants, which is nice since it gets re-used.
Valet is annoying in the same ways that any valet is annoying (no access to your car without them, you have to wait for your car, etc.) -- these valets are fine as valets go.
As for everything else, I basically agree with the other things that Anonymous from 11/26 said.
As for the employees for the women's locker room, I really don't know, but I can tell you that at work, women clean the mens room and they always ask if anyone's in there first; sometimes that's just the way it works. I have never used a locker room anyway -- your whole apartment is right upstairs.
And BTW, there are 2 large washer/dryers in the basement that you can use for pay and not have to empty the water, but I believe they're $2.25 for a run which I consider to be a little expensive. For that matter, you could have the dry cleaners do your laundry and not have to deal with it at all.
EDIT: No more valet parking, it's a contract with the deck next door now.
