Superb Living Experience, But Overpriced

No one can beat the staff--the four "main" concierges, Erik, Nadene, Ralph, and Chris are consummate professionals who take care of business. The maintenance staff are second-to-none--fast, professional, effective, friendly, and even funny. While the valet service has been called "slow" at times, come on--someone picks up your car for you. Get over it. Finally, I've heard complaints of the leasing agents and "management," but I've had nothing but good interactions with them as well.
The building itself is luxurious, and the apartments are great.
The only problem is that, at the end of the day, you live in Newark. Everything is open during business hours only, if that. The ambulances for the three major area hospitals never quit. Good luck finding a decent restaurant within a few miles--not even the Starbucks could survive. Even better luck finding a decent shopping center.
I'm paying about $1900 for a one bedroom, and the Newark factor ultimately makes this property overpriced. No matter how great the staff are, *all* we have is the building. In short, it's just not worth living here to shorten your commute. It's really a building for those who work in New York and want to pay $2,000 a month instead of $20,000 a month.

Unfortunately, this person is not really correct about restaurants. Shopping center, maybe. Restaurants? Sixty Park, Maize, 27 Mix, Key Club, Iberia, Scully's, Theatre Square Grill, Food4Life, Adega Grill, Brasilia Grill, Seabras, Thai House... that's only a few. None of those are more than 1 mile away. As far as shopping center, it really depends on what you're looking for I suppose. Jersey Gardens is 29 mins by bus, and Newport Centre is 31 by PATH.
There are things to complain about with regard to the building, but frankly people like this are the reason Newark is having a hard time. If you'd go outside and look around your area and see that there are restaurants that are very good within a few blocks, maybe some of the bars and restaurants would stay open late at night rather than saying they have no business and closing before midnight (though some of these places listed are open at least that late).
Do your homework and you'll see what's really around.

Very good restaurants within a few blocks of the Eleven80? Not hardly. Even the few decent ones that won't make you sick are far enough away that you wouldn't want to go after dark. And none of them are good enough to justify a train ride. The bottom line is that it's Newark. Better than it used to be, but just barely tolerable.

I have to say I was blown away when I first toured the building I was blown away not only by the building's beauty but by the fact that it is the the first of its kind as far as a super luxury rental conversion in Newark and just up the block from the best train station! (buses, trains, Path ) .
The building was built in 1929 and fully restored to its former beauty for both the lobby and exterior! I also just found out it won the Urban Land Institute's Award for Excellence.
The building has an amazing fitness center where you can even get a manicure and pedicure in the spa area:) aside from the fact they have a sauna and steamroom, a four lane bowling alley, two media rooms...the has has old world charm yet everything has been either gutted or fully restored to its former beauty so much so that you feel like your sitting in some luxury hotel yet you are at "home"!
On the upper floors the terraced units are to die for! Heck, where can you find over 600 sq. ft. wrap around terrace with unobstructed views to Manhattan!
Newark in general is the third oldest city in America so therefore architectually, the buildings are pretty detailed and amazing. I found the building by simply browsing the internet. www.eleven80rentals.com
I also found the website www.10best.com helpful in discovering the best of Newark as far as restaurants etc. and the other interesting thing about newark is the fact that they have NJPAC and Prudential Center, each cultural venues steps from the building!
The naysayers can continue to be naysayers but the people that see this place will be amazed...and yes it might be priced higher than other Newark buildings but who would want to live in those:)
