I moved from down south to live in this place. I have lived here for a few months shy of three years. When I moved in, I was taken by its proximity to Branch Brook Park, tennis courts and the city rail. I honestly thought I had found the most beautiful spot in Newark! My initial complaints were only that I had a small fridge (I live in a studio where it offers a college dorm size fridge). This list has grown over the years. I have a roach problem that has persisted since 2 weeks in. The leasing agent told me the use of an exterminator was "preventative," which I now know was a bold-faced lie. 1.5 inch long roaches fly around the apartment--it is distgusting! The maintenance staff does "just enough" and often has to come back to do what they didn't do right the first time. The basement laundry facitilites often flood, which is a fire hazard because there are a lot of open, live wires down there. Parking is horrible. They do not keep up with the grounds, so often shrubs are overgrown so you can't see who is around the corner. The garbage overflows so there are cats around.

If you can get over the negatives, it is not the worst place to live. I generally feel safe, as the grounds are patrolled by security and police. It is a quiet neighborhood with families, old folks and singles. The park is great for exercise and the light rail leaves you minutes from just about anywhere in Newark and surrounding areas. New York city is just a few train rides away. But despite the false advertising, it is no "luxury" to live there by any means. It is just okay.
