Let me be the one to inform you that Branch Brook Park and Forest Hills Apartments is not the place to move!
I originally am from Brooklyn, NY. I was born and raised there. Lived there all my life. I decided to move out on my own and figured if I moved to Jersey I can save some money and buy a house. Well it ended up costing me in the long run.
I was fooled by the trees, the park, and the tennis courts. The NJ Transit Light Rail is across the street, so it was easy access to work. The apartment appeared to be nice too. There are signs that there is neighborhood watch and a security car that roams around at night.
But what we didn't know was that there is a neighborhood drug dealer in my building, and he attracts all the crack heads in the area. The first three months of moving here my car was broken in to, right in the apartments parking lot. NJPD never showed up to file a report. So, we went to the precinct to file a report and they told us not to and kind of refused to do it. It wasn't until the next day that our neighbor's car, who is a city worker was broken into that they showed up. While in the middle of filing our complaint, another person walks over and says their car was hit too. Hmmm, where was Forest Hills security' A couple of months later, we learned that the security has a hang out spot that they go to and stay their most of the night.
That's not all!
In March 08, my boyfriend and I were walking our dog. We were chased by Pitt bull. The owner of the dog was on the other side of the park. I didn't get bit because I managed to hop a fence and injured my face during a fall. We got away and the owner tried to get away in her car after being confronted. I caught a picture of her plates and filed a complaint. We went to court and they were trying to intimidate me because her son is a police officer at the precinct. My court date was pushed back, but we ended up winning because her son tried to say that the dog his mother had was a small terrier. What he did not know was that I had a picture of the Pitt bull. We won!
Then in August 08 our car was once again broken into and stolen off the property lot. The car was stripped a couple of blocks away and was found and towed by police with no investigation. Nothing was done except us having to pay the cost of the tow.
I have experienced so much in one year than I did my lifetime in Brooklyn. I am no goody two shoes either. I grew up in one of the toughest neighborhoods. But, this is the worst thing I have ever done. I am in fear of my life and feel trapped.
If you are looking for an apartment with Forest Hill Terrace don't do it. They enter/or try to enter your apartment when you are not home. They say it is for emergency repairs. They never show up when you say you're going to be home. They always want to come when you are not there.
DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!

HEY boo!
I hear you. I am from Brooklyn too. Born and Raised in Bed-Stuy and I feel your pain. I work downtown for the past 2 years and just moved here in July.
Why ANY Major Corporation would open an office in this dump called downtown nwk (and skip over its home city of downtown manahttan), I will never ever understand and I have been asking myself this question for the past 2 years...which is why I moved out here.
I live in the Mt. Prospect tower apartments and trust me, it's definitely a differnce. We came from the ghetto to the the supreme dumping lot! @ Least in BK, the cops are alive and kicking 24/7. Ever been by the preceint here, you'd think they were closed for busines. Over here there is no such thing as Police protection.
In BK, the cops roam da streets all hours of the night. I even miss being profiled and stopped! Although the bro and sis in newark are cool and easy going and nice, the government here is like 30 years behind the times. It's too slow for me, and you know how we people from the big city do things...lol. But keep your head up and first chance, get yourself and your family out of here.
You should not have to go thru what you went thru @ all. The only reason I think you went thru the BS is because the part of Newark you are in is not considered the "hood". It is North.
Now in Central and South Newark, it would be just like BK. Str8 bananaz. U prolly would have had something done about your car, still stripped (this is Newark), but made to feel that someone was looking into the matter. As for the bum who let their dog chase you... had it been BK, they would have already been beaten to a pulp!
I'm not sure how a section of a city that boasts 56,000 gawd damn residents can only have 1 Police Precint! This is not the way to live! Sharpe James for MAYOR!I say, If the city is going to be dangerous, do it with a Mayor that knew how to do it right! Just like Koch and Dinkins did for us in BK.
Damn crack head city!
It is not all bad. @ least the streets get quiet and cemetery like after 11, because most people over here have jobs and are employed in the North, and either most are scared to come out late
at night because there is no such thing as the cops. THEY DON'T EXIST OVER HERE. So that's always a plus where you can live in a place where the streets are quiet. Not so in the South and Central nwk.
Anyway, people from nwk, really don't know how to get their city together, and most likely never will. It's like brooklyn in 1970 over here.
Another good thing is the Apartments are 100 times better than any rent controllled apartment in BK. You know it's true!
I actually would chill in this part for a while, since my life expectancy is a bit greater here than it would be in any other part of Newark. This is considered the better part of town.
