Pretty nice, especially for the price

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007

*General*
When we signed our lease in July 2006, management was offering $800/ month for folks with triple-A credit. We've been here for a year now, and we're about to renew our lease because we've had a pretty good experience here, especially considering the cost (rent will be raised 2.75% for the 2nd year). The apartments are definitely old, but ours has been maintained decently. When I came to view the units, I was shown two: one had carpet and a large kitchen with older cabinets and linoleum flooring. The other was all freshly stained hard wood floors with an upgraded kitchen- oak cabinetry and tiled floor. I chose the first unit because I didn't want to have to carpet 80% of my space with area rugs. The older kitchen cabinets have been maintained well and they're huge, so they suite me fine.

The bathroom is small, but it's adequate for 2 people. The bathtub started stripping after a few months, because they've been re-plastering it instead of just replacing it. This is one of the down sides of an older place. They've offered to re-plaster it, but since it takes 48 hours to dry, I haven't had the chance to allow them to do it yet.

I like the fact that there's a lot of closet space/ cabinet space in the unit. The windows are all pretty new, and had clean mini blinds when we moved in. Of late the mini blinds have been breaking, but I think that happens over time. I'll ask them to replace them when we sign our new lease.

*Maintenance*
The maintenance folks have always responded within 2 days. We got to know Karen, the property manager and David the maintenance manager, and they're always polite and friendly. For instance, one morning we woke up & the toilet was clogged. We called the number for emergency maintenance at around 7:00pm. Fausto, the guy on call, said he'd be driving from South Brunswick. By 7:45am he was here and had fixed the toilet. I was impressed! We've also had them clear our bath tub drain, and extract & replace a broken light bulb- nothing major, but they responded quickly.

*Laundry*
The laundry rooms are always clean and well lit. However, we've had issues with the dryers not working well. SEBCO manages the laundry facility, and they've sent me a refund when I requested it (their phone # & info is posted in the laundry room). I now use the nearby laundromat when I can tho', to avoid spending $1.25 for damp clothes!

*Crime*
Since we've been here, I've witnessed a high speed car chase that ended with the car crashing into the side of my building. The three occupants were arrested, about 7 police cars came! We've also seen a more calm arrest of a man who was lurking around the apartment in the day time. Most recently, in the middle of the night we saw the police questioning some young boys outside our bedroom window. Apparently their mother was woken up to come and get them, and she was maaad... we could hear her quarreling really loudly.

*Noise*
I've never heard gun shots, just annoying noises like folks leaning on their horns in the morning to announce they're arrival to friends. I can also hear my neighbors downstairs yelling most days. However, we've sort of gotten used to it. To an extent, I think you'll always have noise in an older apartment complex. The parking is great, they only allow residents to park in the lots, but there's ample street parking for friends/ visitors. They tow cars without decals away fairly frequently, because the towing is done by a commercial company that's always on the look out for unauthorized vehicles.

*Summary*
For a one bedroom in metropolitan North Brunswick under $1,000, Georgetown isn't bad at all. The staff is friendly and the occupants are decent folks. Management maintains the apartments decently, and they're readily available if problems arise. I recommend booking an appointment with Karen or David, and taking a look.
