Forget your security deposit

2B/2B with washer dryer for $1380/month,all new appliances, was a good deal though the security deposit was $2200.But when I moved out I realised the catch, they did not give me back my security deposit, instead sent me a big list of damage charges and said I have to pay an extra $$$, I could'nt belive when they charged $$$$ under carpet damage for a stain in a small spot, and so many other damages which was totally unrealistic. After much negotiations they said, I need not have to pay them any and the account is settled for $2200( my entire security deposit). Dont move in here. Forget your deposit, you wont get it back,I think it will be used to furnish the apartment with new appliances for the next tenant who moves in happily thinking about new appliances, new carpet, not knowing he has paid for those through his security deposit.

If you are so sure the charges are unfounded, you can take them to small claims court. I successfully did. You don't need a lawyer or anything.

That was horrible. Thanks for heads up.Maybe I should cancel the reservation I made last week. There are complaints about Middlesex Management everywhere.

yeah dont forget that when you take them to court, you are allowed to ask for DOUBLE what they unrightfully withheld.

As a suggestion and maybe this is alittle corny but when people move into their units maybe they should take photos of the apartment with a digital camera and have the dates show up on the photo itself. Then when you move out do it again and have it as proof. I doubt they will give you a hard time then. It sounds ridiculous considering who wants to deal with that but on the other hand it could help. It is worth the try.

I think you are right about the photos tactics. I strongly suggest anyone that is able to use technology to use their camera's just take pictures of the apt. and keep it on file. But if you plan to live there for a while then you will have to do this every year with having them check it out. They have rules....you should too!
