Don't Move Here, SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Overall the town of Nutley is great, nice people and a wonderful community. Hillside Gardens on the other hand is not that great, but it is not the worst either. The area in and around Hillside Gardens is
extremely safe.
But the parking is ridiculous because there is no overnight parking in the town of Nutley. However, the management, Westminster has the nerve to currently charge $75 a month for a parking spot that it is on property they own, located in front of the complex. There are other available parking spaces, but some are not 24 hour spots and you need to move your car at certain times on certain days, those range from $25-$35 a month.
Inside the complex, the rugs aren't vacuumed and the staircases are not regularly cleaned, in fact they are quite scummy. Although the Super is 100% nice, she is the type of person who is a nice person, but does not have good work habits.
There are not ample washing machines or dryers. The machines only take quarters, but there is no change machine to get quarters. And some people hog the washing machines and dryers for hours!!!
The rent is outrageous for a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and half kitchen
apartment, roughly $1,025 a month. The apartment is very small and
cramped for the amount of rent charged.
And if by accident the management company overcharges you and you need to get reimbursed, be prepared to fight tooth and nail. The management people are extremely nasty, lazy, do not return phone calls for days and are very ignorant.
If you have a leaky sink or a running toilet, be prepared to wait as I
did, at least 3 months to get it fixed.
The bathroom fixtures are probably from the 1960?s. When we moved in, the Super said the place would be cleaned, but it wasn?t. In fact after we moved in, no matter how hard I scrubbed, cleaned and used every single type of cleaning agent, there was still rust and scum in and around the tub as well as in the cracks of the floors and walls and the heaters were full of human hair and cat hair.
During the winter months, the heat is blasted to about 100 Degrees
Celsius and you cannot control it yourself. The heat is literally steam
that comes out and even if you open all the windows and its 20 Degrees outside, it still feels like a sauna inside.
Also, during the winter months when it snows, be prepared to wait at
least a day to get the parking lot plowed. When it snows a lot, forget
about even getting out of the parking lot, it's impossible! Many times
I had to call out sick from work, because I could not get my car out of
the lot. And be careful when walking out the front entrance, because the Super does not shovel a path nor does the Super throw salt to melt the ice.
The unnecessary noise that I experienced was totally obnoxious on the part of my surrounding neighbors. I lived on the 1st floor and the
people on the 2nd floor were awfully loud! They must have been deaf, because their TV and radio were constantly blasting. They yelled at all hours of the night, they were constantly moving heavy objects at 2 in the morning and dropping things and stomping their feet as they walked. They also felt the need to constantly and consecutively flush the toilet while you were in the shower or running the water to wash dishes.
Overall, Hillside Gardens is located in a great community. The
apartments are half-way decent and kept well, but not to the best
possibility on the management's part. And if something breaks, be
prepared to wait at least a month to get it fixed. Also the Super is a
very nice person, but does not do the work that needs to be done. And the amount of money that Westminster Management charges is outrageous for rent and parking.
