I've been living at Madison Gardens for almost a year now and am very happy with the community on the whole. Spacious apartments, good rent rates, and convenient location make this complex a definite plus to anyone looking. Heat, hot water, and cooking gas are all included in the rent--while you don't control the heat (it turns on automatically when the outside temperature is below 50), it is very plentiful when it turns on. A maintenance guy came in to check it during the cold days last winter and my apartment was 74 degrees. Wonderful for a person who gets cold easily! On less-cold days it can get a little chilly in there, but nothing a space heater and a blanket won't fix. I've gotten very lucky with nice, quiet neighbors, so I've never had a problem on that front.

Parking isn't really a problem where I'm located (on the main strip) unless I get home really late at night. But an empty spot is never too far away, and I've got legs for a reason. The snow was plowed extremely promptly during the winter, and it was never an issue to get out for work. I've never seen a bug in the apartment, which is incredible. I haven't had anything break, but maintenance did respond VERY QUICKLY when I locked myself out one night. They are supposed to charge you $25 for that, but the guy was nice and let me off the hook. :)

Downsides: the secretary in the rental office, -----. I rented this place in spite of her--so incredibly rude and awful, she refused to answer my questions until after I started the rental process. Absolutely charming when she's trying to get you to sign, but wretched every other time. Thankfully, I haven't had to deal with her since. Since the apartments are literally one building divided in two, there is no cross-ventilation and it can get stuffy and stale if you don't have a fan. Easy remedy: get a fan. My apartment faces the east, so while it is always cool when I get home from work, it is also dark. Something I will think about in my next place. The screen door doesn't always stay on the track, somebody stole a chair off our patio, and occasionally the water doesn't know what temperature it wants to be.

All in all, a good first apartment. Some things here and there, but after coming from living in a dorm and living at home, it's been wonderful. I'm positive there are better places out there for more money, but this was the best I could find within my budget. There aren't laundry facilities on site, but across the street (literally) is a laundromat, a pizza place, liquor store, 7-11, and ice cream store. NYC bus comes directly to complex. Good location, with lots of grass around. I recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind very minimal discomfort who wants a good apartment at a fairly decent price.

I HAVE TO SAY THAT ON THE HOLE, YOU ARE CORRECT. HOWEVER, KEEP LOOKING FOR BUGS. THEY ARE THERE. BUT, YOU EVEN GET BUGS IN BRAND NEW HOUSES AT TIMES. IT'S UNAVOIDABLE. HOWEVER, ----- IS THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPLEX. THE OTHER MANAGEMENT IS VERY PLEASANT, THE SUPERS ARE GREAT AND THE AREA IS NICE. IF ----- DIDN'T WORK HERE, IT WOULD BE A GREAT COMMUNITY!!
