Hi everyone, well unfortunately i did not read these reviews prior to signing the lease with my boyfriend so we're a little scared. One thing that I have noticed from the reviews is that the majority of the problems appear to be at the terrace apartments. Hopefully there is none at the ports. The other thing that I have noticed is that there are really no recent reviews of the ports or townhomes in the ports.

I will be moving to a townhome at the ports which may be slightly different from having a neighbor upstairs or below. I will also have my own garage which somehow eliminates my car worry.(hopefully)

I guess I'll be going to the line of fire and provide a review around the end of august if this helps anyone.

Good luck. I wouldn't stay another month in this hell hole if they paid me double my rent. We're moving to Pike Run...you should check that out when your lease expires. You get a pool, kiddie pool, jacuzzi, tennis courts, jogging paths, mountain biking paths, indoor basketball/volleyball, a gym, free yoga & dance classes, and a clubhouse...PLUS safety and peace. In Harbortown you get a ...uh...BIG FAT NOTHING. Just sleepless nights, flat tires, and drug dealers...whoohoo. Pray for bad weather- its the only time the hoodlums stay indoors.

Well Good luck to you! I think you must have come around in the morning. School was not out yet. You did not come around at 5 -8 pm where the droves of wild beast children with bad parents were not out. They key your cars. Break your windows. Stand behind your car while you are pulling out of your space or garage because it is funny. They ring door bells and run. There have been three murders here in the last 4 years. Section 8 mommas with 10 kids hanging out with drug dealer boyfriends and pitbulls. Thin walls so you can hear your neighbors getting it on in your dining room. Shall I continue? We do have a free shuttle to the train if is shows up on time or does not leave you standing at the station when it is the last pick up and the train was 3 minutes late and who knows how to get home from the woodbridge train station without paying 12 buck cab fare. No cracks in the walls? Wait until the rain falls.

I can't believe what I have read. It all is soooo true about the high street area. Section 8, hoodlums, drugs, all of it is true. I only moved in here in July 2008. It is AWEFUL. Right now as I type this it is 9:30pm. My kids are on the couch trying to sleep and my husband is working overtime to afford this place. I also work hard for the money. There are about 20 kids outside ranging from age 4-18 right outside my balcony window. They are cursing and fighting. I looked out the window and one of the boys saw me and waved but in a not so nice way. I just waved back. Now I am scared to death. The apartments are not at all what they appear to be when you see the model. We were not able to see the apartment before we signed the final lease. We read the reviews before we moved in but said no they look to nice. We even drove by in the evening and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Now that we live here, I must say, it sucks. My kids haven't even gone out to play in this area because the other kids are too wild. Don't get me wrong, I have lived in Amboy for 15 years. Amboy is fine, just this area, that I see is to me dangerous. Like the person said above the kids don't move out of the way of your car. and if you are bring groceries up to your door they block the walkway. Such inconsiderate kids/parents. I still have to do the walk through and I plan to list EVERYTHING. Right now I have a musty smell coming from my bathrooms. The closets are falling off the walls. We saw dead roaches in the beginning but they sprayed and haven't seen anymore. I haven't received the window guards that I signed for in the beginning and if my daughter gets hurt they'll have another thing coming. We have a new Mayor in Amboy and I hope to have her change MANY things in Harbortown. ESPECIALLY THE SECURITY. I have another 11 months to live here. Please pray for me and my family.

Hi Tashtone149...to clarify, the management office sends you a survey from good to bad to rate the place. It says nothing about having a paper to fill out about anything that is wrong with the place. Every other place I have lived at I've filled out a paper to help me and the management see what is wrong with the place and what they can fix. Believe me, I have taken pictures of this place, from day one and still the things are not fixed. My kids were asleep on the couches because I was downstairs and I will not leave them alone upstairs until I feel it is safe. With the way I've heard people review Harbortown and now I see it for myself I don't see safety playing a priority on managements list. I understand the "Kids" (Hoodlums is such a strong word) need somewhere to play safe, but when it is 9:30-11:30pm they could at least have RESPECT for the neighbors. Glass smashing kids fighting. I looked out my kitchen window and the teenage boy gave me a dirty looking hello. Hope this helped clarify. I didn't say all of High street is section 8 or that all of Harbortown was either. But, the area I live in by the high street entrance seems to be....I love everyone...you just don't need to make the area look poor.

I have until this Thursday to decide if I should sign my lease at Harbortown. After reading all of these reviews and from word-of-mouth from neighbors and friends, it seems that myself and my friends should NOT move to Harbortown. Is it really this bad???

When moving into any rental community there is always an element of "luck" involved. Granted there are certain communities in certain areas where the expectations are higher but even within the most exclusive communities, "luck" still comes into play. As a propspective renter you can select your floorplan, amount of rent you spend and sometimes even the exact unit that you will get, however, selecting your neighbors is usually where "luck" plays heavily. You simply cannot hand pick your neighbors. This is not unique to Harbortown. Check out some of the reviews on other properties and you will see the good, the bad and the ugly............or sometimes you won't as people in other communities aren't as involved on these boards as others. My personal experience since moving to Harbortown has not been nearly as dramatic or horrific as some of the posts on this board, however, I still believe every single thing said here by other renters. I took a stand with regards to the problems within my unit and over the course of several months have had all of them addressed and then some. I really lucked out and have great neighbors. My cars stay parked in my garage so I don't worry about the vandalism experienced by some. Yes, I can totally hear craziness in the parking lots at times with kids playing, people driving through with loud music or some kid in an apt somewhere screaming his/her friggin head off. It is what it is, again, these things definitely are not unique to Harbortown. Before moving here, I too read the reviews and was very hesitant. The biggest thing that stuck in my mind was I absolutely DO NOT want to be ANYWHERE near the playground! I remember being in the sales office when a mother/daughter came in to get some info on a particular apt and they specifically asked "is this unit near the playground?". LOL! Sounds crazy but that was a critical factor for me and for many others here. I was also given the chance to decide whicn of the 4 or 5 available units I preferred (I actually drove around to each, checked out the surroundings and whatnot) and once I decided on a particular unit, I was then actually given the opportunity to do a walk-thru of the apt BEFORE (and I mean MONTHS before) signing my lease. I definitely lucked out and wish you the best of luck in making your final decision. Just keep in mind that you can decide to give it a shot for 1-year and then move elsewhere if it doesn't work out; you aren't locked into a multiple-year lease here. Moving can be stressful and expensive and uprooting your children/family can take a toll but clearly if you don't like it, after one year you do have the option to simply walk away. Once again, all the best to you.

08/27/08 Hi everyone, I pretty much agree with LaFemme, you really cannot pick your neighbors. I have not seen anything horrible as mentioned before..Who your neighbors are does make a difference and this cannot be planned in any location...I did not have many townhomes to choose from though but "luckily", ended up with a good one as well as good neighbors and what has been so far--good location. I also took the shuttle once for work and it appeared to be on time...I can't say the playground area is bad since I have not seen anything there in that area---but people have posted many things in this website about that area--which is why I did look forward to move in the back. As far as high costs in energy, I can't say I feel a high cost...especially since I used to live 5 minutes away from the NYC where my rent was over 2000---I don't know what's to come for the winter but so far..am I happy here? Absolutely! Just make sure to take a drive in the area, that's probably the most important thing to do...and if its the townhomes on high street past the costruction section--it appears to be quiet so far...To Tashtone/Anonymous---Good luck wherever you choose to live:)---Oh and to clarify--this is the same person who moved to the ports in July.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 08/06/08 Well the only thing I know about High Street is that cars do pass by there a lot because it is the front of Harbortown, it also leads you to State Street where you can get out to 440/287. I haven't seen anything strange there. But I don't think I would know enough about the street since I do not live there. Maybe you should drive by there around different times throughout the week to get an idea. I wish I could let you know more.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I really have to say that we have not had any problems. People have complained about the walls being thin. The only walls I share with neighbors are my staircase wall, laundry machine wall, dining room wall and unfortunately my master beddroom wall. I have lived in different apartments in the past and from my entire month of living there, I have not heard anything weird. I have respectable working class neighbors, one with 2 toddlers and the other is a couple. After being warned, I expected to see horrible things like previous people mentioned. In the morning I see people jogging. I do see people walking their dogs but I'm assuming they're homeowners. The staff keeps the lawns clean. There is no lewd music or dancing as mentioned before. I dont know what happens at the terrace apartments but I have not seen this at the ports. School is continues to be out and the children appear to be "children". They are not hanging around my garage or door at crazy hours. There are no cracks or the walls whatsoever. I have a 2 bedroom, both bathroom tubs appeared to be new and untouched. We are still settling in and must say we absolutely love it. Remember that I also have a townhome and garage which provides additional privacy when it comes to your car. Like I mentioned before, I have a great view:) We think its very "homie"..--Now you have to consider what type of environment you want to live in. The residents appear to be multicultural which we love. Some people may not like that. We will most likely stay here until we purchase a home. When you go and they tell you what building or apartment is available, go take a drive before signing. I didn't do this and thank god lucked out. But I recommend it. I think if its located all the way by the water your home free, especially since your near the home owners--who want to take care of their property:) Good luck!

OK, I am thoroghly scared right now. My husband and I were going to move to the Ports this summer, but things got pushed back - now that I'm reading this, I'm thinking perhaps it was for a reason. Any way, I practical stumbled onto this site, but we are now considering moving to the Ports in Mid-November. Are all of the problems in the Terrace area or is it in the Ports as well? I have children ranging from pre-school to college age and I need to know if it's the best thing for us. If the neighborhood is ghetto then there's a huge possibility that my daughter would have to go to school with ghetto children - which I do not want. I recently told my husband that they reduced the prices for the 3-BR units twice since our initial look and he mentioned that it might be for a reason. There are huge noise issue where we live currently so I definitely don't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire. Now I am wonder. Please advise - Thanks moving from NYC.
