We JUST signed our lease 3 days ago, and already hate the place. I sincerely wish we could afford to break the lease and go elsewhere. The ignorant property manager refused to give me the key to get into our brand new apartment because all the paperwork is in my husband's name. Not only is it non-commonsensical, unreasonable and assinine it is costing US MONEY as I was forced to reschedule the furniture delivery and utilities turn ons and we wait in a motel. It is also illegal to deny a key to a legal tenant.
Prior to this, when we inquired about rental information, she leased a considered apartment out from under us in less than 2 days, gave verbal misinformation to my husband, and was late to the office more than one day, costing my husband time out of work. She is also arrogant and unprofessional. More disturbingly, I have discovered by private consulting with a lawyer that some of the language in their lease is not legal, such as the extra fees they want to charge if you break the lease early. BEWARE!

The property manager did exactly what they were supposed to do. Your name isn't on the lease, so legally they cannot give you the keys. As the wife, your name really should be on the lease for your own "peace of mind", if you were just a girlfrien, then that would be different. Giving keys or granting access to apts to people who are not on the lease can get the propertly manager into a crapload of problems. Unfortunately, you were inconvenienced as a result of this. If your lawyer contact really feels the verbiage regarding early termination of the lease is wrong and thinks it won't hold up in court, you should go for it and beeak it. Just keep us posted on your progress. Good luck.

My husband and I are looking for an apartment/townhouse to move into. We looked at Harbortown and loved it! But after reading the responses and reviews dating back from 2002, we are kind of skeptical about even appling! My husband and I thought (and maybe we are still under the impression) that this is a working class complex, but now we are unsure. My husband and I make a decent amount of money each month, and we would like to live somewhere where it is peaceful. If the walls are paperthin, that's a serious problem. If their are "thugs" hanging outside, that's another problem. If there are children kicking down doors and vandalizing the community, we have another problem. Someone please help. We have already gotten the proper money orders to take to the leasing office but now we dont know what to do!
