I have lived at Winding Wood Apartments over a 6 year period. I lived in the fairly new section and the old section. I am currently in the process of moving out I was so amazed to stumble across these reviews. Most of them are right on point. Check the Star Leger; someone was stabbed to death at Winding Wood Apartments last Fall 2005. It was even on Channel 9 News. They spray painted R.I.P by the apartment where it happened.
From the moment that I entered the rental office and heard the way that the rental agent yelled and screamed at the customers, I should have known not to rent here. She speaks to us in a very angry, scary sounding voice. And don't bother asking to see the apartment before you rent. You will be given a million excuses. Yet, they sneak in a form in the rental agreeemnt that states that you received a walk thru.
Living in Winding Wood Apartments is like living in hell on earth. I have sacraficed my peace of mind, sleep and sanity for affordability. Yes, the walls are paper thin. I can hear people in the neighboring apartments having sex, coughing, kids running up and down(sounds like a herd of elephants), telephones ringing, people knocking, chopping, banging and making noise all day. Whenever the T.V. is on in the apartment down stairs it is so loud, that I can't get any peace and quiet in my apartment. When my neighbor closes his door, it sounds like a bomb went off in my apartment. In the old seciton all of the appliances are old and outdate. Yes you do have to spend several hours defrosting your freezer. The heating bill is sky high in the winter because the place never gets warm. Then in the summer the Electric bill is sky high because you can't cool the place off. To make things worse they won't allow us to use window air conditioners. I have some of the most disgusting neighbors. They hang their underwear and clothes on the shrubs and bushes by our door. When I complained to the rental office. The nasty lady told me that they are hanging their clothes on the shrubs because they don't know any better. They are from a foreign country (India). They live in a one bedroom apartment with 5 people. Since they moved in, roaches began to crawl up my door, and enter my kitchen via their apartment. When we complained to the maintenance department we just got blown off by the other nasty woman who answers the phone. One of the maintenace guys told us to use Boric acid, but it didn't help. It got so bad that several of the neighbors had to get the health department involved. Our entire building was consumed with roaches. Garbage is littered on the grass and the woods. If you get on the bad side of the lady who dispatches the maintenance guys, she will deny you maintenance. She will make an appointment with you, then have you sit home all day. No one will show up. Additionally the older part of the complex is loud, dirty, and looks like no mans land. If you live in the old section and an appliance breaks in your apartment, they replace it with an old busted appliance from one of the unoccupied apartments from the old section. Everybody at this complex pays different rent. The rental prices change with the weather. Their is no rhyme or reason. If you call the management office make sure you don't call before 2pm. Otherwise they won't take you call if you're from Winding Wood apartments. Maintenance encourages us to call the police on our neighbors regarding the noise. I know another tenant who had someone's toilet leaking into her downstairs apartment. After numerous reports to maintenance, she finally had to get the health department involved.

In July 2005, the state inspected the Complex and forced Winding Wood to begin making repairs.

After coming to our building several times, the exterminator said he wished he could blow it up.

I would recommend this apartment to my worst enemy.

So you noticed the hag who answers the maintenance phone calls? I thought I was the only one. And you're right when you say that if you leave her your apartment number and name to be fixed and happen to talk back at her because of her rudeness, she'll erase your name and your apartment will never be fixed. She is such a *****.
