Not a good time to move into Harrison Towers

I was very skeptical of moving into Harrison towers after reading the reviews on this website. But the leasing agent - Barbara seemed very nice and assured us that all the problems were being fixed. So, I moved in with a roommate to a 2BR/2BA apartment in 2006.

MY APARTMENT:
Before we moved in, the 'separator' or 'divider' on the balcony was damaged and requested that it be replaced. As soon as we moved in, the already damaged 'separator' on the balcony was blown away by a storm. The bathroom knob was also damaged. A complaint was registered regarding both. For over 1 year, they said that they were waiting for the material to fix the 'separator' or 'divider'. It was finally fixed about 3 months back - in late 2007. In the absence of the divider, my neighbors would walk over to our side of the balcony and take a peep. The balcony door lock was also not working. When asked to fix it, they just came and put a chain lock which was of no use as you could wasily open the door from the outside. The bathroom lock is yet to be replaced. As we did not cook much, we didnt have a roach problem here. We did see a couple of them but got rid of them immediately.

WATER / ELECTRIC / GARBAGE:
Water is turned off atleast 2 times a month. When the supply resumes, the water is black in color and stinks. Not all the airconditioners/heaters work well. Some of them are too noisy to be used. To complaint about them is of no use. The 'Refuse room' stinks and is filthy. The dishwashers are way too noisy.

PARKING:
There is only 1 assigned parking spot per apartment. There is a bigger Visitior parking lot - but it is unpaved. My friends who have visited got flat tires by using that lot - although I continue to use it.

SNOW REMOVAL:
It is just horrible in winter. Snow removal is way too slow and too late. The snow hardens to ice and its a nightmare to walk from the rear entrance to the parking lot - which is a considerable distance.

MY NEW APARTMENT IN HARRISON TOWERS AND THE ROACHES:
After little over a year in the 2BR/2BA apartment, I moved in with another room mate in a 1 BR/1BA apartment. This apartment is infested with roaches. Walls, doors, kitchen cabinets, beds, ceilings....EVERYWHERE! There has been no way to get rid of these roaches.

ELEVATORS:
When I first moved in (in 2006), they said that new elevators were going to be fixed by the end of the year. It is still in progress. The old elevators were a nightmare. Especially when it rains. There would be puddles of water inside and water would drip from the ceiling. There have been times that I so firmly believed that this place was going to see major fatalities because of the elevators. I have also heard the fire alarms go off 3 times in the last 2 months. It has been happening so often that residents no longer take it as a serious warning. Checkout the picture uploaded by one of the other users. I remember one of the residents taking a picture. Maybe its the same person who has uploaded it.

SWIMMING POOL:
The swimming pool is open only for a very short period during summer and you need to pay extra for it. I overheard a person in the elevator mention that the management used normal paint for the swimming pool walls and floors instead of what should be used. His opinion was that it could be a health hazard. But I do not know if this is true.

JANITORS/SUPER:
They seem to be nice kind people. They seem to be doing some work or the other all the time but nothing seems to get fixed. Its probably because the building has soooo many problems!

CURRENT RENOVATION:
The current renovation is taking place at snail's pace. When it is complete, it will have 3 new elevators, and I have been told that a Gym is in the offing along with some other cosmetic upliftment in the lobby area. The corridor carpets have been changed and doors painted. But pressing issues such as water supply, AC/heater units etc just dont seem to be on the agenda of the management.

Having lived here for close to 2 years, I've decided to move out. I will be out of this place in a month or two.

MY RECOMMENDATION:
Harrison Towers is a quite a decent place. But now is not the right time to move in here. Wait for another year when the renovations would PROBABLY be complete.

The pool was painted with specific commercial paint used for concrete pools. The pool was also acid washed so that this paint would adhere to the old paint and to the new concrete repair done over the summer.

I like how you choose to respond to just one of the issues. Although it is relatively cheap and nice that utilities are included, Harrison Towers is a terrible place to live. Don't trust BARBARA. All lies. Although I could add more information to each of the categories, regarding the visitor's lot, people's cars have been broken into numerous times. When I asked to view the security cameras I was denied the opportunity. This place is going to hell, don't join them.

RSchanx, I have clearly mentioned that I'm not aware if the swimming pool issue is true or not. This is what the guy in the elevator (who apparently worked in some construction company) said: "People from Harrison towers came to my company to my company and wanted us to do the paint work for the swimming pool. Our price was $X but their budget was $Y ($Y being several thousands cheaper than $X) so, they chose to get it done through some other person with ordinary paint which is not supposed to be used in pools". As I said, this is merely what I heard and am not stating that this is indeed a fact. I thought this website was to air our opinions. Living here and seeing how things work, I, personally would give the benefit of the doubt to another resident of the building than the management. It is upto the readers to choose what they want to believe.
