I lived in Nieuw Amsterdam for 6 years. When my family and I first moved there it seemed to be a nice place to live. If there was a problem then the office and maitenence quickly addressed it and all of my neighbors were respectful and friendly. After the first year I noticed a DRAMATIC change in the response of maitenence and of the quality of life that was moving in. We all know how expensive it is to buy a house in NJ and I was just trying to provide my children with a nice place to live. By year six I was quite tired of the lack of response to maitenence calls, the lack of landscaping in the REAR buildings, the smell of cat urine from the "jungle" across the street and no parking due to abandoned cars and peoples boats who didn't even live in the surrounding buildings. I am sure that all complexes have similar issues but Nieuw Amsterdam staff and owners if you can honestly dispute this then prove me wrong by taking care of the tenents that you have left and maybe people won't have anything to write about. I don't think it is too much to ask to have heat that WORKS in the winter and to not be infested with squirels for 4 years because you were too lazy to fix the holes in the roof! I kept up my end of the bargain and kept my apartment immaculate and even made MANY upgrades which I left behind only to be docked on my security for something that I was promised I would NOT be charged for. You create your own enemies and that is why I too cannot recommend Nieuw Amsterdam Vllage to anyone other than single people who have no children and are never home. Because that is the only way you could tolerate it.
