Paper thin walls & maintenance woes

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003

My family and I lived at Echlon Glen for a year. We lived in a three bedroom on Bibbs Rd. Upon move-in, we were disappointed to find that only some of our carpet had been replaced. There was a huge wet spot that smelled moldy in the master bedroom and the hallway carpet was just plain crummy. After much complaining, they decided to replace the rest of our carpet, but only after all of our furniture was in the rooms which had to all be moved. They didn't help move it either.

During January, I woke up to smoke filling my apartment. I called 911 and rushed my daughter and I out of the apartment. After much searching, they found that there was a furnace fire. The furnace started melting itself on the inside and was pumping smoke throughout my apartment. My baby daughter and I had to spend the day with the windows and doors opened in the freezing cold. To summarize, our kitchen floor had to be replaced because they place tiles on top of tiles and they all peel up. Our walls were blackened from the firefighters coming in to find out where the fire was, and it took months to get it repainted. When they did repaint, they painted only partial areas with semi-gloss. They finally repainted it the right way (missing a few areas) about a month before we moved out.

Other problems included: a dishwasher that fell out from underneath the cabinet; a garbage disposal that constantly clogged; paper thin walls (if you are the voyeuristic type you'll love living here); vandalized playgrounds; and a maintenance crew that is so overwhelmed with problems that it takes a while for things to be done. Our air conditioner also broke twice. Did I mention we only lived there for a year and we were in the newer part'

As for the community, Voorhees is great, and our neighbors were wonderful. We were surrounded by different cultures and we all got along great with the exception of one family who was very aloof. Beware if you are a family searching for peace and quiet, because Echelon Glen rents to a lot of college students who have loud parties. They will do something about the noise, but only after detailed documentation over several weeks time.

The pool is nice in the summer and the fitness center is great too. If they could just improve the apartments a bit, it would be a lot better. The carpet is so cheap that it looked very worn after only a few weeks. We also had bugs for the last month we were there; little ones that infested our cabinets and I had to bleach everything and throw out all my food!

The staff has a collective attitude problem most of the time. Kristin, in the office, is the only one worth speaking to if you have a problem.

If you're looking at Echelon Glen, go try Ramblewood in Mt. Laurel, or just move out of Jersey like we did. Now we have a home!
