Yo!

Greatly Disappointed!

I recently moved out of Echelon Glen. I lived there for 2 years and moved out because I just couldn't take it anymore. For the price I was paying, it just wasn't worth it.

When I signed my lease, I felt I was getting a great deal. Well I was sorely mistaken. The trick is to show you the newer buildings in the front as a sample instead of the old and dilapitated buildings in the back. In order to be in the nicer newer buildings, you have to pay significantly more. I opted not to because I figured that the older buildings were probably pretty comparable. Well I was wrong.

If you want to live here, spend the extra $100 to $200 a month to get the apartments in the front because the interior/exterior and the residents are much better. With that being said, that's all I can saw about the front apartments because I didn't live in that section.

When I signed I was told about the benefit of the Community Center and the pool. However, I never once received anything about the Community Center events, if there was any. As a single resident, you get one pool pass and you can't bring a friend, etc. If you want to, then you have to pay $5 a day for that extra person.

The parking lots were ill lit in the older sections. At night, it is hard to see and prospectively dangerous. It was only last year that someone was abducted from the Echelon Mall parking lots, which is right across the street.

I've heard people refer to Echelon Glen as "Echelon Ghetto". I see the police constantly coming in and out of the complexes because of issue residents. There were quite a few times I noticed some unsavory behavior.

As for the setup of my apartment, when I moved in, the walls appeared to never have been painted because there were plenty of stains and spackle spots. The kitchen is extremely dated with a 70's faux wood look. My oven worked poorly and whenever I used it, it would set off the carbon monoxide detector. Don't plan on using your balcony at night because there is no light on it or any outdoor sockets to plug a light in. The apartments are poorly insulated and tend to be hot/cold depending on the season. The toilet was constantly overflowing without reasons. The bathroom sink and tub would drain slowly when I moved in until move-out. I know this sounds unimportant, but it's disgusting standing ankle high in used water duing a shower.

One of the worse things were the thin walls. My neighbor was constantly blaring his music at all hours of the day. I could hear it well enough that I could name the song and discern all the lyrics. This was a large bother since I was studying for the PA and NJ Bar exams at the time. I tried to resolve the issue by talking to my neighbor and by complaining to the complex, both to no avail.

The gas bill is incredbily disproportionate. You might as well blast your heat because you will be charged for everyone else blasting theirs' eventhough you may be conserving. Not to mention you still pay about $50 a month during the summer, when using gas is under $20 for those times of the year elsewhere.

When it comes time to renew, expect you rent to go up significantly every year. Keep in mind I was only at Echelon Glen for 2 years, but my rent went up to $275 more within that time.

The one positive was the maintenance staff. I know many have complained on this site about them, but I've had no problem here. They may not get it right the first time, but they are human and do fix it. Everytime I put in a maintenance report, they would fix the problem within 24 hours.

All in all, there are better choices in Voorhees for the price.
