Everyone who lives here is not rude! Everyone that I have met over the past 3 years has been very nice. I do think that the college students and recent grads don't like it here too much because it is a very family focused community and quiet in the evenings. There has been two or three times where the cops were called for a loud party at night or a dunken fight between a guy and a girl. It's not the dorms here, it's a residential community. If you move here, don't expect to be able to party all hours of the night, play really loud music, or have really loud fights with your girlfriend and not expect people to complain and/or call the cops. The people here tolerate noise very well, but not THAT kind of noise, and especially not late at night.
It's true that the windows are old and can crack sometime. You need to call maintenance and put in a work order. They come and replace the window pane. The air conditioner works, but only for the living room and dining room. No one expects one wall unit to cool an entire apartment? They have ones that you can rent, or just buy another one and put it in one of your bedrooms.
Yes, we did have a period of about 3 weeks that it seemed like the fire alarms KEPT going off. But I always saw a very quick response time from management. I've lived in a total of 8 different apartments in England, Michigan, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Buffalo. There is always SOMETHING wrong with ANY apartment. That's why it's important to shop around and really get a feel for a place before you sign a lease. Yes, it is buggy at different times. But 4 out of my 8 apartments over the past 12 years have had some form of infestation. That's life, especially in apartments. When this happens, one calls the rental office/landlord to schedule an exterminator. That's just the way it is. As far as the rent being expensive, I don't agree. The aparments across the street are slightly smaller and are $325 more a month. We knew the ones across the street were nicer, but we CHOSE to live here to save money for a house. Yes, this apartment is old and outdated. But the rent reflects an older apartment in the town of Wayne. If someone wants a REALLY NICE two bedroom aparment for $1200-1300 per month, you're not going to find it in Wayne New Jersey. I don't think that you'd be able to find it in any suburban area in Northern New Jersey. You'd have to pay at least $1600 per month for a REALLY NICE place here. Northern New Jersey is very expensive and you get much less for your money. You have to consider that before relocating here.
