Impertinent Management

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I lived there for 2 yrs and 3 months. The year I moved in they dropped the rent after I signed my lease. Next year they hiked my rent but in the 3rd yr they did not. As a matter of fact they were giving 1 month free rent on signing 1 year lease to new tenants. The vacancies are very high. Drive by in the evening and notice all the vacant (dark) apartments. The leasing agent Vitoria is very impolite. I have seen the cops called on the supervisor on 2 occassions by tenants. Once while he was ploughing snow he had a fight with a tenant who called the cops on him. When the cops came and started taking him to the police station he was asking me to take his side, which obviously I did not, knowing the kind of person he is. He is very rude and mean. It seems like he hates his job but can not find another one ever. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. The management located in Central Av. in Mountainside is the worst. Which is probably why the employees reflect the same attitude. I was so fed up with their conduct that I bought a house and moved out. Honestly their conduct motivated me to never ever rent again. I lived in Hackensack before this and therefore can't complain about the parking. I grew up in a metropolitan city and so I am immuned to noise. I used to live on Valley Rd. and didn't mind the traffic noise at all. The township isn't great but is convenient. The roads are ill maintained but that's common in Passaic county. Law and order is good in Wayne. My neighbors were great - can't complain. My apartment had bugs - centipedes and spiders that came from the trees outside. I always heard squirrels in my attic but I didn't mind them. But again, what hurt me most is rudeness and indifference of the management. I once had a sewer leak in my basement and complained and no one paid any heed, not even the township's health and sanitation dept. But I do not expect much from Passaic's towns either. Lastly, as I moved out they refunded my security deposit after a month and deducted $200 for counter top replacement. I remember I had left the apartment in very good shape. Never before has any apt. deducted from my deposit - this is the first and last time. If you want my advice - don't rent in Brooklawn. If you look you will find a better place. Even if you have to pay $50-$100 more it is still worth the money to avoid Brooklawn.
