I found this website helpful in my apartment search and I thought I should write a review that will hopefully help others as well.
I moved to Stonybrook in 2005 after an aweful search for apartments (I previously put down money at Inverness apartments. However one night while driving through the complex to get a feel for the area at night I was stopped by the police investigating some crime that was going on. When it was clear to the officer that I had no part in the happenings, he strongly urged me to get out of the apartment agreement because the area was unsafe. The leasing office refused to refund the money I put down). However, I feel it would have been a worse decision to stay in that I was young and single so my comfort and safety was a top priority.
Through the whole incident, I was actually referred to Stonybrook by the Deptford police. They said that of the apartments in the area, this was one of the complexes they didn't come by on calls often.
I have had both some good and some bad reviews for this complex... I will try to be objective!
Good:
1. I live alone in a first floor apartment and for the two years I have been here I have all in all (with the exception of maybe one or two incidents...) felt safe in the complex.
2. (in my building at least) the neighbors were very nice. Again with the safety, I always felt that the other more veteren residents looked out for me and for eachother which I think is important.
3. Plenty of parking
4. Nice facilities (pool)
5. The leasing agents were always nice
6. The maintance guys were very prompt in answering calls and always friendly (never creepy like some other guys I've had in other apartments)
7. (My apartment at least) upon moving in was clean with new shower tub and sink
8. The area the complex is in is very quiet... no loud traffic or anything of that sort
Bad:
1. I opted for the studio apartment and when I moved in the rent was 615 (pretty steep for just a studio) after a year the rent went up to 640 and for next year if I would have stayed the rent would have been 660. A total rip off if you ask me for a 500 something square foot space. This is the reason I am moving!
2. The water heater in my studio was so small I couldn't take a shower longer then 10- 15 minutes before the hot water ran out. A big problem for a girl.
3. The appliances, the shelves in the kitchen and the vanity in the bathroom looked like they're from 1970.
4. I had one incident of vandalism (the lugnuts were removed from my car causing damage... a dangerous and expensive prank)
5. Being on the bottom apartment (this has happened in other apartment complexes) the tub gets backlogged from somewhere and other people's junk bubbles up through the pipes making my tub all gross. This happened maybe once a week... had to clean the tub a lot cause it grossed me out.
And thats all I can think of at the moment. All in all, living at Stonybrook was a good experience although I'm looking forward to moving into a bigger space!

I've lived at Inverness Apartments for six years and have no idea why a police officer would tell you that. I am sure this complex is nice but You were misled about Invenress.
