My 1 bdm apt is on the 3 level and it overlooks Lead Ave across from the leasing office. The noise level from the cars aren't very bad but the buses and trucks are very noise. The apartment has a lot to be desired, it's just too many little things that get on your nerves such the crack in the kitchen countertop and the chips, the older looking kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and the extra charges for example short term lease $100, lose your access key $50, monthly pet fee $15, water fee $15, $50 charge for not curbing your dog (haven't seen that happened but I have seen a lot of extra mounds in the grass), alarm service monthly fee $18, and $40 washer/dryer. The buildings are old and the apartments need to be modernizaed. The Leasing office makes a point to stress the cost for breaking your lease. I have heard gun fire on Saturday night about 8 shots in about a 2 hour period. I didn't see the police arrive only heard them drive by. The night security patrol is not very good at providing correct reports to the leasing office. The maintenance guys are nice put they can't paint worth a crap. Weatherproofing the windows and sliding glass door would improve your electrical bill and eliminate your need for a flu shot. The location is great but downtown establishments don't really exist and those that do exist shutdowns at 5pm. The only evening delivery service is for pizza. I'm afraid to walk around the apartment complex after dust, and I'm afraid to leave my apartment for longer than 5 hours with the dog during the day. Not a highly recommeded location for a single woman.

I visited this place like 5 times (a friend lives there), and there isn't anything "un-safe" about it. Crime happens from time to time, but I felt a hell of a lot safer there than just about anywhere in the city of chicago, where I'm from.
