Worst decision we ever made...

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
My husband and I decided to move to La Paloma because it was closer to work (we lived on the Westside and gas prices just kept going up up up...).
At first La Paloma was okay... the office staff was friendly and they tried to be helpful. When we moved in the apartment had obviously not been cleaned. I ended up having to do it myself. They apologized... but that was about it. The faceplate on the dishwasher was missing... the maintenance man sketched me a picture so I knew what to set it to and said he ordered a replacement which never came. The day after we moved in the handle on the microwave came off in my hand... it still wasn't fixed when we moved out 2 years later.
About 6 months after we moved in the complex changed property management and that's when things went to hell in a handbasket! It was absolutely impossible to get anything done.
One night my husband was in the shower and lifted his arm to wash underneath it. His fist went right through the ceiling! When he tried to pull it out the entire ceiling came down on top on him... moldy insulation and all. Apparently there had been a leak that had been painted over SEVERAL times.
We went straight to the office the next morning and they said to put in a maintenance request they would send someone out. It took 3 weeks and 6 requests to finally get someone out to look at it. Then they lost the request for the repair and it took over a month to get them to come out again. When they finally did they cut a hole in the ceiling and taped a black trashbag over it. It stayed like that for over a month until we finally threatened to go to the tennent board because we hadn't been able to use our bathroom for almost 3 months!
We continued to have issues that were ignored... the kitchen sink wouldn't shut off one night and ran for over an hour before my husband got home to fix it. The washer and dryer were constantly breaking down... the air conditioner constantly leaked on the carpet (not just a slow leak... it literally peed all over the place for an hour after you started it... we had to put a bucket under it.)and on and on and on.
Parking was a nightmare!
The parking lots were not maintained in the winter. After the big blizzard in 2007 we had to dig ourselves out after being stuck for 3 days. And the little old lady that lived down stairs was out with her oxygen tank shoveling snow with a dustpan just to get out her front door.
After the complex changed hands again things slowly started to get better but by that point we just wanted out as fast as possible.
Like I said... it was the worst decision we ever made.
My husband was in the Navy and spent lots of time overseas... he said he'd been in 3rd world countries that were a step up from La Paloma!
For a "luxury" apartment complex it was definatly found lacking. If you're thinking about moving there save yourself the headache and the money on overpriced rent and find something somewhere else.
