I lived here for 15 months and had a positive experience. The apartment was a decent size and clean when I moved in. I never had problems with the management, but I'm a fairly low key tennant. Some of the neighbors were wonderful and friendly.
On the bad side, yes there is a fair amount of crime (I called the police on a group of kids smashing a car on the street outside), and the shooting in the spring of 08 is not to be ignored. But I never felt unsafe, and since I had renters insurance and auto insurance I'm never too worried about my own property.
I've lived in much worse apartments where you actually have to name the mice so they don't bother you so much.
