Why rent here when you can rent across the street....

I have lived here for 5 months. We currently have a 1 year lease and are terminating it early. I really don't know where to start...
The people that live here are ghetto. All of our neighbors need marriage counseling. Not one week goes by that I do not hear one of our neighbors arguments. We had people sharing our bedroom wall with us and they often threw eachother into the wall and we screaming and throwing things off their balcony. The police were called and other tenants complained a number of times. The staff said they needed 3 complaints from 3 DIFFERENT tenants. I find that outrageous. If the police need to be called more than 2 times then the people obviously need to be evicted. Eventually the people moved out...but I am still not sure if they were evicted.
People do not clean up after their dogs when they go the bathroom...and are rude when you ask them to. We are only allowed small dogs. Small dogs=small poop=not a big deal. Some neighbors obviously have not gotten their dogs approved to live there because they are huge. Huge dogs=huge poop=big nasty mess.
The apartments that are not updated with new appliances are disgusting. The appliances are old, the washer and dryer are not full size, and the carpets are gross. All of our door handles in the apartment are broken. The sink smells like rotten eggs, and the drains clog all of the time. The PNM bills are just rediculous. There is no ventilation in the apartment, it is always stuffy. There is little to no lighting at night and honestly I do not feel safe here.
Many of the tenants are also creepy/trashy, but what do you expect for 580/month''
I would say the only good thing about this place is the fact that maintenance is usually pretty quick to fix any issues...which there are many.
I am moving across the street to Spring Park. We are getting a two story apt that is bigger, nicer, and for a good price.
This complex needs to get their ---- together. I do not see how they can even compete with other places in the area.
The thing is, I can usually suck it up and live somewhere that may not be ideal, but there is a fine line between sucking it up and being an idiot, and Mountain Run made me cross the line. PLEASE do yourself a favor, don't live here unless you have no other options.

Since I'm a tenant here, I would like to respond with some afterthoughts. There are over 500 units and, yes, I agree, some do need marriage counseling, but I've been in different work settings in Albuquerque, and most of those employees, who don't live at Mountain Run, need marriage or relationship counseling, too. It's a problem rampant in this city. I just call the cops if a neighbor gets loud. I have new neighbors - very young girls - and am not happy about the possible party atmosphere which will occur in that apartment. This quad I live in has been quiet lately - for months. The neighbors are in their 50s, late 30s, one a man who has to work some nights, and a young man whose friends are very decent and well mannered. So, we don't want a party person in this area. I am not afraid to call the cops repeatedly if I have to. As for notices from several tenants to the office - yes, I do not agree that they should need THREE complaints from THREE different people. Why not four, or five, or ten? Why three? But, it is my understanding that the office needs an unbiased complaint, so calling security or the cops will suffice, and I have not been afraid to do that. However, not all tenants in this complex are in that boat where they have relationship problems. Yes, I have complained about the shopping carts that some tenants leave in the area, from Smith's grocery. I, personally, agree that makes an area look "ghetto." I would rather all tenants have decent running cars in this complex, too. I do feel if one does not have a vehicle, then he needs to live in an area more central to the city's core where the public transportation is available. I do agree the dog mess has been a problem. I have complained about that, too. I have also suggested to some to remember to clean up after their dogs, and if they get rude with me, I could care less. I have plenty of friends locally and nationally, I don't need them. I have an apartment that hasn't been "renovated." Frankly, for $100 more, I don't need stainless steel appliances and hangar racks that keep my clothes perfectly spaced. I can do that alone with my precise obsessive ability in keeping things orderly. The washer and dryer are not expected to be full size. They are stackables. And, I do laundry about three loads a week, sometimes four. I don't keep piles of clothes around and then have to do ten loads in a weekend. People who live like that need to use laundromats. My appliances work great. Of course, if something breaks, the office knows I expect it fixed IMMEDIATELY or else I will freak. If your door handle is broken, then you get it fixed by management. My sink doesn't smell, but then, again, I'm clean. As for utility bills, Spring Park has the same set up - you pay for utilities. Your bills there will probably be just as high if you don't know how to conserve and dress appropriately. I live on the third floor. I keep my air on regularly this time of year, but it is at about 75. I run a humidifier for added moisture and that even helps to keep the area cool. For the winter, people around here in this city need to learn how to dress appropriately. I lived in northern climes for most of my life before moving to the Southwest. You don't turn the heat up to 75 yet wear shorts and a T-shirt inside the unit. As for stuffiness, it's an arid climate. You need to run a humidifier or stop complaining. Lighting - it's fine. Plenty of lighting. I have used the walking trail around the complex in the later evening and have felt fine. A year ago I heard that Spring Park has plenty of issues with its tenants, too. I took a walk in there a few months ago to check out that park. Saw a few trashy cars and some trashy tenants, too. The thing is, when two people are allowed to share a one bedroom apartment, then the rent is really cheap for them. I don't have a roommate. If I were married or such, then a two bedroom would be far less for each of us then what I pay now for one. So, under the rules that two people can share a one bedroom place, the rent will be cheap all the way around for those people. Frankly, I would rather see limits on how many people can share a place - say one person per bedroom - but that is a city ordinance, most likely to protect families. I don't care for kids running around and being loud anywhere, so it wouldn't bother me to have the ordinances changed, but "family friendly" places seem to focus on those with kids and do leave out those of us who CHOSE to be child free. And, considering the area's (citywide) problems with those with children, it isn't a bad idea. I'm 46. I do look forward to the age of 55 or whenever I get clearance to live in a setting for that age. Any apartment complex in this area will have problems. It's also a cultural problem.

Well, good luck "across the street". you obviously didn't do your homework with the Albuquerque Police Department and how many calls/reports they have over there on a monthly basis. I had to make a decision between Mountain Run and Spring Park...and used not only this site, but crime statistics for the area, and let me tell you, Spring Park has SERIOUS issues on both ends. All I have to tell you is good luck. I've been here for a little over 4 months, and while I have heard a few arguments, it's expected. And as far as lighting not being adequate, nothing could be farther from the truth. Thisplace is very well lit at night. I too have used the walking path that borders the property and have NEVER felt unsafe. Parking areas are also well lit. It's an APARTMENT...if you want complete privacy, buy a house...and even then, you may not get it. Maintenance is terrific, and management does a satisfactory job in addressing complaints and running the place. Parking can be an issue from time to time, but yeah, it's almost 500 apartments....it's expected. Overall, this is a good place to live, and the rent is right...

That is great and I respect both your thoughts about the place. That is what this site is for, positive and negative comments. I am happy that you are having a nice experience in this place. I would never wish a bad experience like mine upon anyone. I did do my homework, and I have friends that live there that have never had a problem, so thanks for the assumption. And the cops were called on 2 different neighbors I've had...so this place has issues as well, just as any place probably will. I am not going to buy a house because I am moving back to the EASTCOAST where people are civilized. And I do not want complete privacy, I just want people to act HUMAN and somewhat respectful. When rent is cheap you see more issues at a place and thats just my own mistake for taking a chance.
