Slumlords

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2009
I lived at Sun Village for 3 years. It started out as a "decent" place to live, at best. As time went on it grew far worse--especially during the last year. Parking is limited & spaces too small for even compact vehicles, management unprofessional, and maintenance personnel a joke. In addition to having paper thin walls and cockroaches as pets, you'll be thanked by your Sun Village staff & maintenance with a lack of hot water quite frequently. My HVAC unit didn't work & was never fixed (apparently luke-warm air is considered "heat"), hot water was out for 4 weeks straight last summer, mold was growing in my apartment, and water started coming up through the floor in my closet (again, nothing ever done by maintenance despite repeated requests). Furthermore, Sun Village has been in the news twice within the last few years because of a large number of car break-ins, and because a drug dealer was murdered in the parking lot.
These apartments are constantly under new management (& probably new ownership), and it's unlikely that this decrepit, unsanitary, & likely condemnable property will ever be deemed a habitable environment. Sun Village has gone too far down the drain to be saved.
Sun Village appeared to have a lot of vacancies when I decided to finally move out this year, and based on other reviews (many of whom were also long-time residents), it seems as though most of us finally had enough of their crap during this last year. They jacked up their prices, & when people weren't renewing their leases they were practically begging us to stay with lowered rent--take this as an obvious sign to run away from Sun Village as fast as you can.
If you're unfortunate enough to already live at Sun Village, make sure you take pictures, and make sure even your maintenance requests are in writing & request copies of EVERYTHING! I mention this because it makes life much easier when forced to take them to court for not returning a security deposit. Help take New Mexico's slumlords down.
